Chuck Most Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Not sure how many of you caught it- or even how many of you actually can get BBC America, but on last night's episode of James May's Toy Stories (starring none other than Top Gear's Captain Slow), he and a team of schoolkids built a 1:1 scale model of a British WWII Spitfire plane! A company who makes 1:1 'dummy' display replicas for military bases recreated an old Airfix kit in full-size, sprues and all, and the kids assembled it in a hangar. Other than its size, it was broken down and arranged just the way an Airfix kit would be. It even needed a little 'careful trimming' during assembly. This was easily one of the coolest things on TV I have ever watched... when they were carefully pulling the plane out of the hangar for its big unveiling, I was on the edge of my seat! Turns out they're still pretty fragile in 1:1. I won't say if it ended in disater or not, but it was very, very cool!
vizio93 Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Man I wanted to, I watched Top Gear then I fell asleep .
RJWood Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I watched it, flipping between that and watching my Dodgers loose again.(i know how Cubs fans feel) Last weeks show was cool too, Model trains. It should be on again, as BBC America shows replays. Usually on the weekend. Definitely worth watching. I'm gonna look for the replay.
TurboKitty Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 I love Top Gear and I only recently heard about James May's and Richard Hammond's other shows. I'd like to watch them all but I don't get BBC America, I have to upgrade my cable, lol. I was at my parent's house over the weekend and caught an episode where he was by a blue & yellow train, a bullet train I think. He had a scale model of it in his hand. I've tried to find this show & others online in good quality with no luck, and they're not on Netflix either
Chuck Most Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 I'm kind of surprised I even get the channel- I've just got the DirecTV basic package. I'm glad I do get it though! Best part is- I missed Top Gear and James May's Toy Stories that night... BUT... after they play an episode of Star Trek TNG (last night's was 'Deja Q', the one where Q looses all his powers, pretty good episode from 1990 even if I can't believe it's been that long already), they re-run Top Gear and Toy Stories. I usually watch the later airings since I can't even consider falling asleep until 3 AM or so!
TurboKitty Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 yeah, I am not allowed to have any sort of dish at the apt complex I live in, so I was stuck with Comcast. I'm happy with the internet, but basic cable & expanded basic cable sucks lol. I'm better off paying $8.95 a month with Netflix, I get my Top Gear fix there and theres a LOT of other movies/shows I can choose from. I still would like to have better cable for current tv shows though, lol.
Chuck Most Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 yeah, I am not allowed to have any sort of dish at the apt complex I live in, so I was stuck with Comcast. A satellite dish IS one advantage to living out in the sticks, I suppose. That, and I can stay up until 3 or 4 AM watching TV and working on models! If I were in an apartment, I'd be evicted so fast I'd never know what hit me!

The only negative thing about where I live is the huge *** spider outside my bedroom window, and the guy who lives above me that shouts "WOOOO!!!!" really loud at different times of the day/night. He's not running on all cylinders, I don't think..
Joe Handley Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I found the slot car one on YouTube a couple weeks back. This One was pretty good too!
Agent G Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 All those episodes are on line, I think on Youtube. Great story, and no commercials too! G

MILD Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I was going to start a thread on this last week when I picked up the book tie in. I'm not sure how readily available it would be over there in America, but it's worth picking up if you can. Some great detail about the various topics covered in the show. Plus its bloody funny

mredzadventure Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 Only if you drive an Austin Marina! Sheesh, even if you buy one that's already had a piano fall on it... If I ever get around to modeling one. I think I should swipe the piano out of my daughters barbie dream house for effect.
