whale392 Posted September 21, 2010 Author Posted September 21, 2010 No pics (yet) but some progress was made on this. I got the body in primer and guidecoat........she still needs some work around the c-pillar/body area and some more filler on the roof joining seams (it came ghosting back once the primer hit it). Got the sleeves back from the machinist; had to send them back as one of the cut dimensions was inaccurately reproduced (easy fix......will have them back Friday). Got the rear wheelwells made and glued in, the headrests cut and shaped, and some more minor body shaping done/filling panels created.
59 Impala Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I can't wait to see this Bradley. I haven't done a thing to mine other than fixing the bad body sink holes and poor mold joints. I've been concentrating on my 53 Ford custom with the Packard tail lights. I got it finished and I'll have it at the next meeting. I hope you can make the meeting. Take care and build on my friend. Dan
mikelo Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Wow, I love it. I hope to it in person. Had I of done this build, That was what I was going to do to it (since I just chopped the top off to make a jarius build). Loving it. Looks great so far. Mike
codie27 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Ahhhhh Buicks, love 'em!! That roof swap is a great idea, so much better than the factory roof. I'll be watchin this one to see it finished.
Harold Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Nice work. I really like the roof. Buicks are cool.
whale392 Posted October 28, 2010 Author Posted October 28, 2010 Sadly, there likely will not be any more updates to this build, as it died a rough death last night. All bodywork was done and smoothed; all I had to do was rescribe the lines for the chrome around the front and rear windshields. I had fixed the way-miscast front fender-to-cowl lines, fixed the front lower corners of the windshield, got the roof looking 'right'...............and as I was finishing the scribing on the rear glass chrome surround.....I removed my tape guide and as I did the drivers C-pillar came out with the tape. After messing with this body since July to get it all to flow right, my temper took hold before reason did. Anger (and my right hand) turned the body into a 7 piece unit. Round2; before you decide to dust off some more old molds and start shooting plastic through them, do us the modelers a favor. CLEAN UP AND TEST THE DARN THINGS! This thing was so far miscast that Hellen Keller wouldn't even have let it out of the factory if she were the Q.A auditor! I cannot completely blame R2, as I was the one who changed roofs, but having to do excessive clean-up/fixing of the rest of the kit coupled with the roof failures did this and my temper in. I do have a second body (still stock). I am contemplating another go at it. I will see when I calm down.
59 Impala Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 WOW Brad, so sorry to hear this. What a real bummer, and it was looking really cool. I hope you can come up with something. If you still have the 7 piece car, would you bring it to the meeting? I would like to cut it up and use the fenders and maybe the doors as spare parts hanging on the wall of my garage I'm trying to do. If not, that's OK. Dan
whale392 Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 Well; I have a spare body, and I got a 1961 Impala at the IPMS show this weekend. Looks like the spare and the roof from the 61 will join forces to continue this build-up. It won't be done for the December deadline, but it will at least be back underway.
whale392 Posted November 27, 2010 Author Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) , Got the wheel sleeves polished and the centers painted/glued into the sleeves. , , Got the body in Dark Cherry Metallic Laquer from the Testors Model Master line. These pics were taken before the White Lightning (also a Testors Laquer) was laid into the hood depression and the Tamiya TS-13 was applied and buffed out. Interior is halfway done.........this won't be ready for December 5th, but it is getting closer to being finished. Edited November 27, 2010 by whale392
fastram Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Well at least you can have it ready for the Cincinnati Challenge in April! The theme this year is The BIG BOPpers. BUICKS, Oldsmobiles, & Pontiacs. Ready to play now? The car looks great from what I have seen. I too have a Buick Special wagon I picked up at the SCIMA show last month, and am working on a 66 Wildcat. Keep up the good work, and Breath Before Crushing next time!
DRG Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 I know some may think this odd but I want to thank you for telling us of the demise of the Electra. I don't know the number of times when I have wanted to do the same thing. So far I have restrained myself but I know it will happen eventually. I was thinking these guys don't have those problems, why do you. Now I know we all, OK some of us, face the same issues.
59 Impala Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Say Brad. Looks good so far. Mine is done and waitin for Dec 4 not 5. The 5th is on Sunday and our meeting is Saturday. The 5th is my 41st wedding aniversary and I can't forget that ya know. Anyway I hope you can make the meeting. Dan
