envious8420 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 First Attempt at making a tarp. Learned it shrinks a little around the edges.
Blake Rogers Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 (edited) hey jim that came out great buddy i like it how did you do it Edited August 17, 2010 by Blake Rogers
Railfreak78 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 That looks spot on for a tarp that does see some wind to mess up the edges a bit. My wifes convertible needs a new top and we tarp it when it rains and it looks like you took it off the car. Great job!
Guest Johnny Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 That is the first time I can remember seeing that done! Great job!
diymirage Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 That is the first time I can remember seeing that done! Great job! there is a member on here who build a picuk truck selling ice he had a tarp just like it only more faded in the bed to keep the ice from running out it looks great, but i think the colour looks to new you leave a tarp out in the sun for a year or so and it will fade so....how'd ya do it ?
envious8420 Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 Thanks for the comments guys!! I started with wrapping the car in saran wrap to avoid any messes, then I took TP single square by square and watered down white glue and started laying them down over the car and soaking them in glue with a brush. once it was believable I took a McD's napkin for the last layer, laid it over the hole car but only applied glue where it went over the TP and let it dry some. Then folded it back like someone uncovered the front end and added more glue. Let it all dry and sprayed it plain ford blue with a satin clear top coat.
Romell R Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Came out nice, but next time dont use TP as it is designed to disentigrate with water, thats why it shrank on the edges. Instead use facial tissue. and you can even wet it and spread white glue on it and lay it on your model and shape it. Let it dry over nite and it will be hard like plastic. Keep up the good work!

What Ratio of glue to water do you use? Edited August 19, 2010 by mredzadventure
envious8420 Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 (edited) I thin it to the consistency of milk. I use a thicker glue than most too. Edited August 25, 2010 by envious8420
