Hi there guys, I hope some of you can help answering this question, I have a Johan Cuda I want to build but I want to use a different and more updated chassis than the toyish one that comes in the kit. Which chassis is the best one to use? Would it be a 70 Challenger? A 71 Charger? Please help! B)

Ed, if Im not mistaken you can use a A M T 71 with some minor trimming . I don't have those pieces in front of me so I'm trying to rely on memory . I know there were differences on the Barricuda and the Challenger as I sold the real Plymouths in the day. Ed Shaver

The Jo Han chassis is smaller than just about anything out there. The AMT Challenger requires a fair amount of surgery. The 1/24 Monogram Challenger is HUGE. I haven't tried it but I wonder about the Revell 1/25 Challenger. Anything else such as the AMT Duster are longer wheelbases and require a great deal of surgery.

A member of our Model Club did this SAME conversion on HIS JoHan 71 Cuda. He used the complete e/c AND chassis from the Revell 70 Challenger release. He had to do SOME modifying of the parts, but for the most part, it was pretty easy he said. It CAN be done useing those parts. Hope this helps!biggrin.gifwink.gif

Great mods Steve. I used the E/C and chassis, modded of course, to make the chassis's for my 70 and 71 Cuda's. I remembered that Chrysler used the B Body chassis and E/C under the E bodys, so I just did the same thing. Came out pretty good too, just like the big guys!laugh.gifbiggrin.gifwink.gif

I do remember seeing one of the forum members here using the AMT '71 Charger to accomplish this, I thought it was Plumber, my boy from Australia, hopefully he can chime in and tell us what he did with his. Of course, the guys here on this thread have very good recommendations also... B)

Sorry, I think Steve Milberry has the idea I heard from Plumber right here on this thread, didn't take time out to read it properly. Sorry Steve.... B)

I believe the Revell Dodge Dart is a very nice replacement for the Cuda chassis. It is more recent tooling and the detail is excellent. I am putting one in both the Jo-han 71 and the MPC 69 for my Sox & Martin series of models....if I ever get back to working on them!!! B) .

I followed a similar line to what Steve did too.

My chassis was based on a '71 Charger, but I made the full rear section from scratch. A lot of work, but the result was pleasing. :)

It was a labour of love, as I wanted a 'Cuda which was much more accurate than what was available over the shop counter. ;)

The full build process shows most of the work required.

Cuda build-up

Hope this helps some too. :D

cheers
