John Teresi Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Hello.......another older one..........started out as a Revell Don Prudhomme Monza F/C.........decals were bad........H.O.K. white.......all graphics airbrushed Tamiya dark blue and Tamiya red.......sides and rear Army lettering done with rub- on letters .......wired and plumbed......thank`s
Dragline Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Looks great John. I have one of these kits waiting in the wings. Gotta watch those old Revell decals though. They have bitten me more than once so far. Bob
Foxer Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 Holy Cow, John! and, does that parachute really work?? ... amazing!
Smart-Resins Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Great save! Nice build. Cool details! Super model! What did you use to cover the chute pack? Thanks.
John Teresi Posted August 22, 2010 Author Posted August 22, 2010 Great save! Nice build. Cool details! Super model! What did you use to cover the chute pack? Thanks. Jody......on this Army f/c I used sports textured bandage wrap.........but I think it has a little to much texture.......now i`m using medical textured tape.......it has a little less texture and I think it look a little better........you can get it at any medical store and cost around 2 bucks.......you can also use it for covering seats or headliners etc.......you can airbrush over it or hand paint it.......thank`s for asking.
Smart-Resins Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Thanks for the reply. I was wondering. Now if I may ask, what do you apply it with to ensure it does not fall off or become loose over the years? I am ready to move to the next two levels on chute packs, so the more I know, the better. Thanks.

Thanks. Jody......I cut 4 pieces of the medical tape for each side of the chute......the medical tape has a pretty good adhesive ......but before I apply each piece......I spread some super glue on the chute before I apply each corner piece.......hope this helps.......thank`s
Smart-Resins Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Great! That was not the adhesive I was exspecting you to tell me about! LOL. Thats why I may ask the same questions to a couple of poeple! Now last question for the mo, I promise. Did you have any trouble with the super glue trying to seep through the holes on the bandages. Yes I know this is kinda a silly question. If you dont put too much on, you dont have to worry about that right. LOL. However I always seem to end up doing the opposite of what I should by mere accident! Esp. on the super glue bottles as they will get clogged, then gush all at once on me and useually at that point, I will get stuck on my work! LOL. Thanks for the help.
W-409 Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Thumbs up, this is very GREAT model! Big fan of H-Bodys, specially Skyhawk, Monza and Starfire, because 1:1 '79 Buick Skyhawk 2+2 is in the garage... This is just so nice, that engine looks like 1:1 and the hole car is like straight from 80's drag strip... Awesome job John as always!
Cato Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 John, You're a master at drag cars. Great work. Have you ever done Wild Willie's Winged Express? Would love to see your take on that. Ivo said some nice things about you in Burgesses' article on haulers and you might get mentioned in his forth-coming book. I'm sure The Snake's a fan of yours too.
Greg Cullinan Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Nothing funny about this one John, looks like serious business.

Cato......thank you for the nice comments........I have done a "Winged Express"..........actually a placeI I used to work at called "Precision Miniatures" aka "Motor City Usa" ...........they made the 1/18 scale "Winged Express" and the 1/18 scale "Pure Heaven" and a bunch of other famous diecast drag cars.........that is the place where I learned how to airbrush......the owner was really cool he gave me a few kits of the mpc 1/24 scale "Winged Express".......I used one of the to make a fast build.......it came out ok but,I would like to make another one......after looking at the 1/18 scale one the detail is unreal.......so when I make another one I`ll go buy the specs. on the 1/18 scale.........on my work bench I have in line the "Wild Borch' 1/16 F/C..........thank`s

Funny Ivo story: In '68 or '69 I used to hang around a local chassis/header shop called 'East Coast Headers' and did racecar lettering and striping. When Ivo and Tarzan came east on the match race tour, they would stay at the shop as a base of operations. They raced at NY National, Atco, Ct Dragway and Virginia. Well anyway, Joe DeLoca, the owner of the shop always b!tched to TV that he never advertised the shop. Ever the wisea$$, TV said one day 'Come here kid-I want you to letter 'East Coast Header Corp' on my car!' This was the brand-new and beautiful 'Rainbow' car, Long chassis and Tom Hanna tin covered in rainbow-striped metalflake. 'Sure TV, (I Said) I'll gold leaf it right now-where do ya want it?' They pulled the spent bullet out and Tom pointed to-right under the zoomies... Virtually invisible with the headers on and he laughed his tail off. Sad note -the car wrecked FIRST TIME out with my fingerprints still on it. I prolly cost TV $40K worth of bad luck. Now adays, a short block is $40K... I've searched high and low over the years for a snap of that car with no luck-that's how new it was before it died. I hope TV has it in his coming book.

Cato........I don`t know if you have seen these builds I did?.......the first photo is the first 'Wagon Master" I gave to Tommy Ivo for his birthday.......and the 2nd photo is the 2nd "Wagon Master" I made for me but, I added the truck and hauler to go with it........just thought I would share it with you........thank`s
Cato Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Yes, this is what Tom mentioned in the article. Fantastic work x 2! I don't think TV had blueprints for you to work from on such obscure subjects (especially the hauler!) You make this stuff up as you go along??
