LAone Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 started on this a few days ago. it's a hasegawa kit and i gotta say, it's a nice kit. comes with a sport suspension already. so it sits low already. the front on the other hand sits a bit higher. which isn't much of a problem to fix. i added spring perches to the rear end for a bit more detail. ill be making some springs for it as well. thanks for looking and stay tunned for more.
MyBradKeselowski Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Awesome, I like it ! ! ! Looks great just out of the box with those wheels and ride stance...
CrewDawg15 Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Nice to see you on here Luis. That is going to be one mean dragon
sak Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 That is gonna be some sweet ride. Hard to believe it is a Toyota but I love those early seventies celicas. Hardtop cupe with chrome bumpers. Love to own one of those one day. You know what would be interesting in that model. A V8 from those lexus.
spkgibson Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Is this kit still available?I wouldn't mind building one of these,Some of the Old 70's foreign cars are quite appealing to me,This one especially to me,Looks like this is going to be a nice build.
LAone Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 thanks guys, hey kasey it's rollin80s from spc. hey mr jimmy, i just found this spot on a whim, along with another forum. haha this kit is still available, ebay buddy. some priced high though. just shop around. so i did some more work on it. new springs, new perches and started the lip spoiler. sooo, how do you guys like your pics? like this or the photobucket way??
LAone Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 well, i made an exhaust tonight. some aluminum tubbing from k&s. not 100% done but it's what i got. hope to get some paint on the chassis this coming long weekend.
Play4Keeps Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 I am in love with those stretched wheels wish I could just get them at my LHS
whale392 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Those are some deep Minilites to pull a stretch on the sidewall like that!
LAone Posted September 3, 2010 Author Posted September 3, 2010 thanks, you can get the wheels on www.hwjapan.com under aoshima wheels and acessories. minilites, no. these are watanabe's. same design as minilites and everyone that has this design..lol the stretch is called hippari. which just translates to stretched tire. so i got some more done, on the spoiler. made one springe and top hat, but didn't take a pic. so ill have one later when i make the other. here along with another shakotan buddy.
LAone Posted October 2, 2010 Author Posted October 2, 2010 well i've done some more work to the celica and forgot to post it. started making the fender flares. OE style made the front springs and upper hats reducing the inner lip of the rim, looks closer the what it should look like
cruz Posted October 3, 2010 Posted October 3, 2010 Nice start, I have built a few old style tuners myself and I love them...
LAone Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 thanks bro. i got some more done to it and i can say im happy to actually get something i feel that im moving forward.. all hand painted, from the primer to the silver on the bolt heads. enjoy first i drilled out the plastic around the engine area and then proceeded to paint away.
LAone Posted October 16, 2010 Author Posted October 16, 2010 tough crowd... primered the body today. gotta sand some spots that are rough, but i couldnt help to dry fit to see what the wheels look like under the fender flares. also painted my suspension in the TRD colors. baby blue spring and green shocks. thanks for looking
camaroman Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Brings back memories of my Dad's old '76 SillyCar as we called it... Later model engine, man was it a screamer... Had over 450k when he got rid of it... Nice work.. I really like the flares.
CrewDawg15 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Lookin good Luis. That chassis looks like its been Rhino lined...no rust worms penetrating that
LAone Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 been i while since i posted an update. got a small one now and well, i shot the first coats of paint, it looked good. but noticed the front need some more. well i shouldve waited till i felt better cause this happened. other than that it looks good i think. sooo, i just need to sand some dust and stuff off, smooth it out a bit where the paint chipped off and well beats the hell out of me about the cracks. hell knows i am not gonna fix it...
doublejuggs Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 There is a trend in japenese models to show some wear and tear and a bit of damage so i would leave it its looking sweet as it is.
1chris Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Hi everyone, Very new at this but love the old celica. I used to own an old TRD celica that was used and raced in Australia. I have several old pics of the car and when I registered it for road use I painted it racing green. All the best Chris
doublejuggs Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 what did you use to make the fender flares? i have a datsun 240 that is crying out for some.
LAone Posted November 20, 2010 Author Posted November 20, 2010 wheelman, ill have to take you on that invite. youll here from me tomorrow. 1chris, i like that action shot. pretty sweet celica doublejuggs, i used tamiya 2part epoxy putty. took some time to get them like that and honestly not 100% satisfied. cars1206, yes. it does come with left hand dash. do you want it? i have no use for it. thanks every one. i should have another update on thanksgiving weekend. 4 day weekend woo!
cars1206 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Thanks for the offer on the dash. I picked the kit up at a show but I have never opened it. I was never sure if I would resale it or build it. I've been waiting to ask someone who has opened theirs. Thanks again Mike.
CrewDawg15 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Like I've said before Luis...great build. It would be a perfect candidate for the JDM community build. Jimmy
