Recently I managed to obtain a sealed Revellogram Pro Modeler 58 Corvette, which are getting rare now, as a gift for a friend of mine.

We were rather surprised when we found out that the kit contained no body. Has this happened to others too?

Kits can be re-shrink wrapped by unscrupulous sellers. Not saying that is the case with your kit just that it is something to be aware of.

One of my friends has bought two different Revell AG (Germany) kits from one particular Hobbytown, a store that is not near his home, and found out (both times) after getting home that the body was missing. One was the 250 GTO and the other more recently was the Ferrari California HT. I have a Protar 250 GTO (same kit) for parts, so I gave him all the body pieces for that (molded in red vs. white for the Revell issue).

Never has happened to me...

Could have just been a really, really bad short shot.

:)

I work for a model distributor, we see 1,000s of kits go through the place every month, it's rare to see one missing a body. I'd be suspicious. Bodies, clear parts and decals, too, they're all the things modelers screw up the most, so it's suspicious when they're missing.

Had a similar thing happen. Bought a "sealed" 300c from Hobbytown USA. When I opened it I noticed a bunch of loose parts on the bottom of the box. Upon further inspection I found that the door hinges, one whole plated tree and one(!) tire were missing. I emailed the company and got back a rather rude reply telling me that Hobbytowns are privately owned and that I'd have to take it up with the manager there. I called him and he got really defensive and said at least 4 times that they aren't able to reseal boxes there. Eventually he agreed to order a new kit and give me the parts from that. I wonder if he then resealed that one and put it back on the shelf to repeat the cycle.

I once bought a sealed '53 Ford F-100 which had the chrome sprue from an AMT '64 Impala kit instead of the correct sprue, and another time I bought a '53 Studebaker which was also sealed, but upon opening it I found an extra set of tires... with a set of Torque Thrust wheels (looked to be the ones from the AMT '69 Olds 4-4-2) inserted into them! I suppose stuff like this happens quite a bit, but I've never had anything like the body completely missing.
