codie27 Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Just a quick question for either Gregg or Harry. Is it just something playing up with my computer or has the rant and raves section now been removed?
Gregg Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Due to the recent issues on the forum, I have removed the Rants and Raves section I am posting a note as we speak There will be no more negative comments, attacks, "Baiting" of members, and other posts allowed here on the forum If you are caught doing such a thing, you will be banned, instantly.
codie27 Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 Good idea, it seems like thats where most of the trouble was starting anyway. Although there was some interesting stuff in there its probably better off gone.
sobpinstriping Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I liked it, kinda makes me sad its gone. It was a good idea but I guess some people are just to sensitive. cheers mat
highway Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Due to the recent issues on the forum, I have removed the Rants and Raves section Even though I know you have said you were working on this anyway, could you possibly replace it with the Community Build Section? That would be a positive change out if all the negativity that went on there.

Clay Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Done Send checks or rolls of unmarked twenties to Harry I pay nothing!!!!!
crazyjim Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I didn't mind the "Rants & Raves" section. Didn't go there much either. Maybe that's why I haven't missed it. I would like tosuggest that the latest issue of MCM be put on the website to replace the May/June issue. That's not a rant or a rave! Just thinking it would be could to have the latest version out there.
highway Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Done Send checks or rolls of unmarked twenties to Harry Thank you very much Gregg! I will PM you and Harry sometime later today with at least the community builds I'm currently taking part in with the section they are currently in to help assist in moving the builds to their new home. I'll also dig through and try to find some of the others I'm not in, too. By the way, the check's in the mail, but I wouldn't try cashing it for a while!
codie27 Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 Hey guys, what exactly is a community build? I dont quite get it and I have seen it mentioned a bit here.
highway Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Hey guys, what exactly is a community build? I dont quite get it and I have seen it mentioned a bit here. Codie, the best way to describe a community build is that it is a build of a certain subject matter that members of the forum community can participate in. Usually, a member will come up with a subject, and if you wish to participate, you come up with a kit that qualifies for the subject, and most have a certain timeline in which to build it. There is no winners or losers, because there is nothing to be won, even though sometimes when the build project is finished, a poll topic might be set up for all forum members to vote for what they think might be the best model. It's just a nice way to build something with other members of the forum with similar interests and have fun while doing it. Since I know you like trucks and you live in Australia, say I wanted to start an Aussie truck community build. You see it and want to join with a Revell of Germany Aussie Kenworth kit, you join and build it however you want, just as long as it stays in the Aussie truck theme. The subjects can vary greatly, some are very specific as to subject and some are wide open build anything subjects. An example of a wide open subject is a build I have posted here in the Trucks section, but the actual Community Build is for another site, that is a "race" theme based loosely on the "Cannonball Run" movies. Most others are building a sport touring type car or musclecar, but I was in the dare to be different crowd and entered this: A few of the more specific type builds I'm in here, though, are like the Jairus race plane build, which finishes on the 22nd, and is for racing planes based on WWII fighter aircraft. Another is just for Japanese built cars made before 1990. A few of the other less specific ones is one for demolition derby cars, another is a Bonneville Salt Flats/Pikes Peak race car build, and yet another is the Forgotten kit build, which is for kits that were highly talked about when they were released, but you never really see many ever really built. I hope that helped out and didn't get you more confused!
codie27 Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 Matthew, you explained that very well and it does sound like it would be fun so I may have to jump in on one these at some point. I have an AMT 49 Ford tucked away at the moment and since I havent seen many built, maybe that qualify for the forgotten kit build? I have seen your Louisville build pics in model trucks and I gotta say its looking really good and coming along nicely. Thanks, Codie.
Darin Bastedo Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Due to the recent issues on the forum, I have removed the Rants and Raves section I am posting a note as we speak There will be no more negative comments, attacks, "Baiting" of members, and other posts allowed here on the forum If you are caught doing such a thing, you will be banned, instantly. I always thought that the "rants and raves" section was almost asking for trouble. Most of the acceptable content would fit just as well in either the general catagory (general compliments or complaints about the model manufacturers and the hobby in general) and the new kit reviews, (compliments and complaints about specific kits.) Removing a general rants and raves section, removes any implication that there is a "whine about hurt feelings" or "attack a fellow modeler" section. Perhaps this change will bring about a kinder gentler forum, where the primary focus is on the models and the hobby in general. It's like I say at work when drama ensues, "Come to work. Do your work, Go home. Rinse. Repeat." everything else is a distraction.
Harry P. Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I want to rant and rave about the loss of the Rants and Raves section. Where can I post that?

elan Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I, for one, won't miss Rants 'n Raves. I rarely went there, but when I did it was all about things we have no control over. Such as bashing model manufacturers, "someone cheated me", or "why can't everyone build like me". Kudo's to Greg.
Nova-ss Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I've never looked it there.I have my places here I love to look at.Thanks,Chris

Thanks for the compliment as well, and I hope to be getting back to work on the Ford soon, I've been busy and not done much on it lately.
