Gregg Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Does anyone know if there was a model of a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T made, any scale? I am almost certain never had in plastic.
Zoom Zoom Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Welly made a VW Bora diecast in 1/24 scale, which is what the Jetta is called in other countries. It's not an easy model to find in the US. They also made a Golf Variant, which is basically what the Jetta wagon was, but w/the slightly different Golf fascia/hood than the Jetta/Bora. I did a quick Google image search and found quite a few of the 1/24 Boras on Ebay in Germany. No plastic has ever been made, though someone may have made a resin conversion of Tamiya's 5 door Golf V5 hatch which is OOP and still a hot commodity from the tuner builders all over the globe.
gasman Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Like Bob said, the only 1/24 scale VW Jetta in 1/24-1/25 scale of that vintage is the Welly diecast, here's a picture of it, If the reader is just looking for anything of that vintage jetta, maisto has a 1/64 VW Jetta, that can be found at just about any Wal-Mart.
jbwelda Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 if that bora is really a jetta like we know in the states, it doesnt look too hot from that photo. like the body is too tall or something, or too short.
Jairus Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 Too tall or too short? You must mean too short in LENGTH! Right?
Drago Posted February 28, 2007 Posted February 28, 2007 I think that this Welly’s die cast Jetta is a very well replica… Very close to the real car… There is a Brazilian modeler that started scratchbuilding one using the VW Golf from Tamiya… I already sow it… guys… his work it’s amazing … very well done…
jbwelda Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 >You must mean too short in LENGTH! yes thats what i meant...either its too short or too tall (or the lense is distorting it) because i cant even hardly see "jetta" there.
VW Dave Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I can't believe I missed this one.....maybe I can help. The 'Bora' is indeed the same car we call the Jetta here in the US. The Tamiya Mk4 Golf could be converted into a Jetta, but there would be a ton of work involved. To the untrained eye the two cars are pretty much identical, save for the Jetta's extended posterior.....actually, the two cars share little more than the main platform and the doors. The noses are completely different, from the headlights and grille, to the hood and fenders. Golf: Jetta(my wife's 2002): For the money, the Welly diecast isn't too bad. Minichamps did a really nice series of 1/43rd-scale diecasts, and there was even a Chinese-made 1/18th-scale one that looked pretty nice(although I haven't seen one up close). Here's one on 'the Bay:' http://cgi.ebay.com/1-18-Precious-Brand-Ne...VQQcmdZViewItem www.peoplekars.com has the Minichamps one in stock 8)
Schumacher330 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Wasn't there a diecast made of the Jetta from the Fast and Furious? I don't know if it's the same year or not.
VW Dave Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 The FnF Jetta was a Mk3('93-early '99); it was the earlier one:
