Lyle Willits Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Dan Peterson has been concerned lately, that all of my hot rods have only two wheels, so to make him happy, I've returned to the 4 wheel category. Kit frame is modified here and there to accept the IFS from a '34 Ford kit and the rear from a revell '32 Ford kit. Engine from a Speedwagon kit. Exhaust will be scratchbuilt with BOB DUDEK aluminum mufflers. 3 inch chop with cab rear window lowered and window frame scribed. Paint is HOK Candy Lime Gold, not rubbed out yet. Had to extend wheel wells into the bed because of the fat tires. Wood-grained with Polly Scale paints and cleared. Still need to add the BMF strips. Stock seat is now tucked and rolled using half-rounds. I don't like the deluxe grille in the AMT kit, so I'm using the standard grille from the funky MPC flipnose F-100, with the "promo" headlights drilled out and '69 Camaro reflector and lenses added. These are the Bob Dudek mufflers. Hopefully, I'll have this little beast done for NNL EAST.
Irvin Arter Jr. Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 that's my kind of truck! Love the tuck and roll seat. I need to watch you do the piping I can't get it to work right. Digin' the color tooo!
Matt T. Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Yeah, that seat is beautiful in its simplicity. Nice color choice! I'll be looking for it on the table...
Steve H. Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Nice work so far. Your wood graining technique is gorgeous!
Tom Kren Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Nice job so far Lyle Cant wait till nnl east to see it up close!
charlie Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 looking real good I like that motor set up on your truck.
Lyle Willits Posted March 1, 2007 Author Posted March 1, 2007 Nice!!! What '34 kit is that IFS in? The AMT street rod kit.
empinut Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 i have always admired your builds. glad to see u back on 4 wheels. Bill Murrieta
Randy Kern Posted March 2, 2007 Posted March 2, 2007 Lyle 'blue oval' Willits! Now that looks like a killer truck in the making. Nice engine choice, and the wheels look right for it also. You should have a seminar on how you got the wood color so real looking in the bed. Dan can relax now.
cruz Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Hey Lyle, you are building something with four wheels????? Nice work, can't wait to see this one done 8)
ratrodder Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Nice work! This is a very nice kit to build. There are so many ways you can actually build this truck, and I like your style. ........ratrodder doug
mikesmodelgarage Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Nice Build so far Lyle. I was wondering where you got the wheels you are using for this truck? Mike
MikeBoyle Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Lyle, I'm sure you've been asked many times, but what/where do you get the wire you use for the piping?
Modellpularn Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 That's a sweet color!! Real nice. It kinda reminds me of a real car built in the sixties, it was featured in at least one magazine. It had wire wheels.
Lyle Willits Posted March 13, 2007 Author Posted March 13, 2007 Wheels came from the Revell '66 Chevelle wagon kit. The wire I use for piping is simply detail wire (what some of us call spark plug wire) and can be purchased in almost any color from any number of model car aftermarket companies. You can buy a few colors of wire from Radio Shack.
Harold Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 That's one nice little Ford you have there. Is that the regular F100 or the flipnose? Great chassis work.
62rebel Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 that's the one i wish they'd reissue; loads of extra parts and well detailed to boot. you have got a great build going, and i learned something about this type of kit from your photos; don't assemble the bed before painting! i've always stumbled through stepside builds with painting the bed! in the immortal words of homer; "D'oh!" i shoulda thought of that. again, love the concept and the execution!
