Dave Ambrose
I've used DOT 3 and 4 brake fluids and they work well. Be sure to clean off the model with soap and water, followed by denatured alcohol. You don't want any brake fluid residue on the model. Scale Coat stripper works very well too, but it's expensive. Mr. Show
91% alcohol will take lacquer off fairly well. I've gone to that since messing with brake fluid is too messy and toxic. If you do go the brake fluid route it'll probably be your best cheap option. It'll take off anything within a day.

Yeah, wheras 91 proof white lightning is a delicatessen! On a more serious note: Have you guys ever tried thick bleach? I use it for decades and it works so well for me. It's the easiest thing to obtain and costs pennies. The looks one gets at the supermarket checkout when putting four bottles of that stuff onto the conveyor belt is priceless! route66modeler
HI,cheapest gallon of house hold bleach you can find with strip old enamel and chrome. You know it has stopped working when you can't smell it. Steve
Kodiak Island Modeler
I've used brake fluid with excellent results for many years, and have had excellent results. No matter what you use, wear gloves and eye protection.
imatt88
I've used bleach to remove chrome from plastic for years, works great I just used Purple Cleaner engine degreaser to remove hand painted acrylic paint from the Ferrari I'm working on.. Works pretty good, but it has to sit for a while before it can be scrubber off. Cheers, Ian
