crazyjim Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I build my models out in my shop (20' x 40' steel building) that's about 100' from the house. When we had a kitty cat, she couldn't come out there. Sabrina was actually my wife's cat but I fell in love with her. Sabrina would love to go out on the lanai and chase lizards, take na drink from the pool, or just lay around in the sun. Sabrina got very sick 2 years ago and we had to take her to the vet and had her put down. We were with her for the final injection. I don't mind telling you that I'm a combat Marine and I cried like a baby after Sabrina took her last breath. We had Sarina cremated and have her ashes. Some of her toys are still laying around the house. We've donated some to the animal shelter, but we'll never get rid of them all. We certainly get attached to our critters and our lives are better because of them.
Ben Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Uuuuuuuhhhhhh, now you guys are killin me!!!!!! Last year I lost two of mine to cancer. Percy was acting strange and I could tell he was in pain. I had him sleep next to me all night and I tried to make him as comfortable as I possibly could and the first thing in the morning I took him to the vet. I had to force him into the carrier because he didn't want to go. He had a lump under his belly and I knew the diagnosis was going to be bad. I was so worried that I couldn't go to work and just went home. They called me about an hour later and said that after they opened him up to find out what was wrong, they found that the cancer had really got into his organs. They said the most humane thing to do would be to not wake him up. I never saw him again. He was cremated and is here with me now. I was dead inside. It hurt sooo bad. My other cat that died I had for 18 years and he (Mitsy) was an indoor/outdoor cat. He ended up getting Squamous Cell Carcinoma which is a form of skin cancer. I let him be until he was having trouble eating and it was just too much for him. I had to take him and put him to sleep. I would rather be shot than have to go through that pain again. The sad thing is, I know the cats I have now won't last forever. I just thank god for the time I have with them.
Foxer Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 A timely post! My daughter's cat is visiting for the week as she left our 3 feet of snow to go skiing in rainy Colorado. The cat has been behaving but I build in the basement and she's been down once ... just for a mouse check. She was eying my bench and would need careful attention to keep her off. Probably been good I'm in denial and haven't been down there much. You all with cats should know better ... cats can only jump as high as they care to .. but NO limit!

MrObsessive Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Jim, I can certainly empathize with having to put a cat down. The day after Thanksgiving '09, I had to put my Kitkat down who's picture was my avatar near the end of the year then. He was only 8 years old, but developed liver failure to the point that he stopped eating and drinking water. Needless to say, when the time came to have him put down, that I was crying so badly that even the people in the waiting room were crying as well as the staff. I didn't take his ashes though.........I just knew that everytime I'd see them, I'd break down and cry. Here are the two critters I have now...........I still have Captain who's almost nine. I've had him since he was a tiny six week old kitten. And then there's Yori..........a Japanese Bobtail I got from a friend of mine in my church when she was six months old about a year ago. Here are a few pics of 'em................. Captain parked in his usual place when I'm at the work bench........ .........And then there's Yori at a rare moment when Captain lets her near him. Yori CANNOT come into the model room! I've already had things "disturbed" and once I found her on the work table! I keep the door closed and she meows to get in there sometimes. (Cats don't like shut doors!) For your entertainment, here's a quick video clip of Yori chasing after a laser light. Needless to say, her movements had me doubled over laughing in stitches!
crazyjim Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 We must have the same sickness, Bill. I used to play laser with Sabrina and laugh my butt off. It was really funny when she jumped up the wall to chase the light. Good times with a good kitty cat.
torinobradley Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 This is funny because I also have a bag cat. An orange tabby that is the family's but is always with or near me. She's an upstairs cat but will come down to see me when I am downstairs. If you hold a bag open, she climbs right in. Oh, and she comes to me when I snap my fingers. I play rough with her all the time and she has never once hissed at me. Anyone else tries to play with her and they get the hiss... She's not interested in models or the shelves the models are on, she just likes the plastic bags they came home in... Though, she does chew on plastic like the plastistruct bags, so those have to stay put-away. Great thread!
SuperStockAndy Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) We had some of these too... MOMMY!!!!! Edited January 18, 2011 by Android
futurattraction Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) Our kitty doesn't spend lots of time in my model room, but she occasionally comes down and spends some time on my lap while I'm working on something. Her name is Isabel (Izzy). She's been known to get into trouble on occasion, mostly by jumping up on cabinets or shelving units where I'd just as soon that she not be. In her defense, I don't think she's ever broken anything. She's going on 17 years old and her kidneys are failing, so I wanted to post this pic of her while we still have her around. We don't have any "natural" children, so she's been our baby since we adopted her 16+ years ago. It's gonna be really, really tough when we lose her... Scott Edited March 15, 2011 by futurattraction
Terry Sumner Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 We have...gulp...10 cats! Yes that's right...TEN little furballs! But in all fairness, they are my wife's cats. One is my buddy and sleeps with me every night right next to me but the rest hang out with my wife. And since my wife is totally disabled and cannot work and needs her hips replaced etc etc...they are what keep her company through all the long days. There's always at least one of them on her lap! My shop is in my basement though and they aren't allowed in there. Already suffered damage in the past and am not going through that again! As I wrote the above early on in this thread I didn't realize that I had a couple of photos of the culprit who caused the aforementioned damage in my shop. I ran across these 2 photos of the interloper that I had taken with my old first generation Sony Mavica FD73 camera. This was before cameras got up into megapixel resolution, hence the graininess...sorry. This is the oldest cat we have now called "Prettygirl". Hosted on Fotki Apparently she LOVED my chair! DRG Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Paula and I have had cats the entire 38 years we have been married. Yes, I wanted a dog but then I love all animals. They come into my Hobby Room but never jump up on anything.
