mrmike Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I have had this kit in the stash for a while and I had stolen the wheels, tires, and tire decals out of it for my '05 Chrysler 300C several years ago. My original plan was to build this Coronet R/T with a set of Pegasus 19" Chrome T's, but I changed my mind when I found a set of Dodge hub caps in my parts box. I also had a set of resin steel wheels that I had purchased for a cancelled project. This one will have the 440 CI out of the Revell '69 Charger R/T. The steelies and caps. My paint will be Tamiya Light Blue Metallic with either a matching blue or white interior. I am considering making the bucket seats into a bench seat and deleting the center console, similar to my '67 Belvedere II that I built several years ago. More to come.....
whale392 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Remember Mike, you would also have to change the interior pattern as the Coronet500s these R/Ts were based on had different patterning. Also, the R/T never had bench seating as it was the upper trim level of the Coronet line.
mrmike Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 Well Brad, I've had about 3 hours to think about the interior and I am now leaning towards keeping the bucket seats and the center console. I'm going for the stock look with steelies and caps along with the bucket seats and console.
whale392 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Steelies and these cars just go together, in my opinion. to me, the most beautiful B-Body cars ChryCo ever styled were the 1964-67 Plymouths and the 1965-67 Dodges, followed by the 1963 Plymouth Fury. I will be looking in on this build Mike....you and Harold have my attention!
mrmike Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 I agree on the steelies and caps! I assembled the transmission and engine. I'll drill the spark plug holes and then paint later. More to come.....
Mr. Moparman Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I dont know what it is about steel rims and Dodges. Something just makes them look great! Looking great Mike!
Rob Z Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 The Steelies and beer caps is truly the way to go... It SCREAMS MOPAR... Gonna keep an eye on this one...
mrmike Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 Thanks Brandon and Rob! Rob, I have never heard the phrase "beer caps" used before. I have heard of hubcaps and dog dishes, but not beer caps! I guess you learn something new everyday!
Rob Z Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Thanks Brandon and Rob! Rob, I have never heard the phrase "beer caps" used before. I have heard of hubcaps and dog dishes, but not beer caps! I guess you learn something new everyday! It's a term I picked up years ago, in a barroom, from a guy who is a major MOPAR freak. At the time he had a '64 aluminum front 300 with a 426 wedge and a '67 Cuda, he raced the Cuda and the '64 was his daily driver. He also had a '67 Dart with a 273 he drove in the winter and always complained about losing his "Beer Caps" when he hit a pothole. Needless to say one day my curiosity got the best of me and I asked him about it and he told me they were his hub caps. LOL Like I said, the things you hear in a barroom...
mrmike Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Thanks for the clarification, Rob! This morning I got the wheels, body, and hood painted. The chassis is next. The engine and transmission have been painted and glued together along with the carb. More to come.....
charlie8575 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I'm assuming the Corona bottle was the aftermath of a project that didn't go well? Actually, that's a good idea for a paint-stand, Mike. I might copy that, albeit with with something a little less potent. I like that Tamiya Mica Blue, too. That's actually looking like an appealing alternative for my Ambassador, as it's pretty good start towards AMC's Barbados Blue- another alternative. Keep it coming. Charlie Larkin
mrmike Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Thanks guys! Charlie, that is not a Corona bottle. It's a Bud Select bottle and I should replace it with a Bud Light Lime bottle.
mrmike Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 I got the chassis primered and oversprayed. I masked the seats and sprayed the floor and the rear shelf matt black. I polished the body and hood. Shiny! I still might clearcoat the body and hood. More to come.....
juergen Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Hi ! Very cool color choose! i think it´s looks great with the steelies and i´m be so curious for the next pics. greets juergen
mrmike Posted January 26, 2011 Author Posted January 26, 2011 Thank you juergen! Here's some more pictures... Work has started on the 440 CID engine. I have decided to replace the kit shifter with the shifter from the '69 Charger. More to come.....
mrmike Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 I had a chance to sit down this morning and work, uninterrupted, oin the interior of the Coronet. This was a lot of tedious foiling which included the trim on the bucket seats! I finished the 440 CID engine. More to come.....
Space Cowboy Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Hey Mike you are doing some impressive work with great detail. Keep on building..
mrmike Posted February 1, 2011 Author Posted February 1, 2011 Thank you Bruce! I finished the instrument panel this morning by utilizing foil and chrome silver paint. I almost forgot the console mounted tach. A shot of the seats. More to come.....
dwc43 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Looks good. They also made a vacuum gauge for gas mileage for the console as well. I actually have a real one, but the console is set up for an auto shifter. It came from a convertible, 383 car. I have the whole car, but it's not worth restoring. Too far gone. The rust cancer took it over. Drive train will be saved though.
charlie8575 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 Really nice work on that interior, Mike. Charlie Larkin
mrmike Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 Thanks DW and Charlie! As soon as I get myself dug out from under all this snow, I'll post more progress.
71datsun1200 Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 looks realy nice so far. can't wait to see it all done.
mrmike Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) Thanks Will! Well, the shoveling is done until the next storm. Here's a shot of the chassis. With the engine installed. I have started foiling the body. More to come..... Edited February 3, 2011 by mrmike
