Dr. Cranky Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Can someone take pictures of what comes in the box, please . . . thanks . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Thanks, Chuck, just what I needed to see . . . it looks like a good, simple kit with not too many parts . . . and the trailer is the big bonus. Sweet.
Chuck Most Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 Now, Round 2 needs to reissue THIS. Yes, it's a '77, but it could pass as a '76, park one next to this Caprice in a Chevy showroom diorama, and you'd have the 'bookends' of the Chevy lineup!
Dr. Cranky Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Totally agree. Yes, those racing elements would be great to have again.
Chuck Most Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 I'm thinking "Phantom Yenko Chevette". (No, seriously!)

Eshaver Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Neva met one dess Chebbits that I could evea make run with a re- built carburator decently . Dang things made me wanna do alcohol all over again .......... Ed Shaver
Chuck Most Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 Racing diorama parts in a Chevette kit ... Hey, I learned to drive in an '82 Chevette Scooter! To a young punk kid, it sure seemed racy! Always found it weird you had to press down on the shifter to engage reverse. Man... AM radio, driver's side mirror only, cardboard inner door panels, no glovebox door, 'hubcaps' about four inches in diameter... you couldn't give away a car THAT bare-boned today!
Guest Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 How's the glass in this one Chuck? The one I bought years ago had a huge horizontal dip in the middle of it. It was so bad that I couldn't use it. I'm thinking about getting one and use the "wild" parts from my '71 Impala on it to build a high rider.
Chuck Most Posted May 21, 2011 Author Posted May 21, 2011 Glass seems pretty good, at least in my kit. Kind of on the thick side, but pretty good otherwise.
Dirty Gringo Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Saw this today at local shop and wanted to get it Im a sucker for the old box art. Oh well ended up with the 66 impala instead
Edsel-Dan Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) I know for a Fact that the 72 Impala did NOT have the trailer It Did have the Mild/Wild parts. as well as being one of the Professional Painted body kits. I still have it, the kit was Molded in Blue, and the body overspayed with Clear metallic for a metallic Blue finish The 73 Did get the trailer returned, and was also one of the Painted kits, this one Molded in Brown, with a Gold metaillic finish to the body. I need parts for both to restore them The 73 is built as a 4x4, has the 72's interior & rear bumper/tail lights! The 72 needs a new hood & grill I also had the 70 Impala Convertible from MPC. the "VAMPIRE Machine" complete in Glow-In-The-Dark plastic. I Did add the Spider-web hubcaps (Over top of the Stock caps no lees) and the large Bat to the hood. I Wish I could find it in my attic!! That one Did Not have the trailer either!! Also, I read somewhere that the engine/chassis/etc are all straight from the 68-69-70 so are a 454 which was not available in the latter cars due to the gas crisis of the day! Dr. Cranky Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 I finished mine and I have to take some final pics so you guys can see it . . . this kit builds up very well, and I have to say I am a huge fan of these big beauties!
Tonioseven Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I have one in progress. I'm not all that keen on the chassis but I still think it's a cool kit...
Joker Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Borrowed this photo from Chuck's Fotki.(thanks Most) My question is about the vertical piece on the hood/dash spruce. The instructions(they bite)are no help. Also any engine bay pixs of the model would be appreciated the google images bite too. BTW...Steve Milberry has a 76 Caprice on his Fotki album and I'm borrowing his sun roof detail on mine. thanks Steve James aka Joker
Joker Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Thanks for the faster than quick response Steve. The badge backer sound like something MPC would do. Now to do the Treasure of the Sierra Madres line.. Badges ! We don need no stinking Badges! lol ..thanks for sharing your Fotki
gray07 Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I have a built 75 stock even has the stock hubcaps on it, and i have a unopened 76.
jayhkr Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Oh man this brings back memories. My VERY first car was a '77 caprice classic. Baby blue with the good ol' butterfly valve carb! Man that was so much fun in the winter when it got stuck! Believe it or not my mom still has her 1988 Caprice Classic with LESS than 100k on it! (and no she's not that little old lady that only goes to the supermarket) LOL thanks for the memories on that one!
Ron Hamilton Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Here is the convertible I am working on, from an original kit from '76. I may back date it to a '75, as I have an old glue-bomb that needs restoration. Steve Milbury's '74 looks better.
carcrazy19 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 I'm interested in getting this kit because it reminds me of my dad when he had one when I was a kid. I wanted to know if anyone has built this kit and what were there opinions about it. This build would be more for sentimental reason so I'm not to worried about detail. I just wanted to know if its a good kit and how is the fit and finish and if its worth buying. Any comments would be appreciated.
Motor City Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Anthony, This is based on the 1971 Impala Custom Coupe model (a convertible promo was also available in Sunflower Yellow, but never issued as a kit). The kit was updated annually and has good detail. I have the 1973 Caprice kit, which I built exactly like the Caprice Classic 454 Coupe my Dad ordered and I reluctantly sold in 1991. The chassis has good detail with a separate exhaust system, and it came with a detailed trailer, too. I'm not sure if the trailer was still included in the 1976 kit. I don't think you will be at all disappointed, and it was the only full-sized American model car offered that year, so you are really lucky there.
Scalper Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Here is some progress shots of mine So far so good while building it. the only issue I had was the rear lower window trim . Its not even there anymore. vary hard to bmf
