Tommy Kortman Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 WooHoo!!! The 2011 racing season will finally get started this coming weekend with the running of the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona.... And the Flying Lizards are on the pole. GO LIZARDS!!!
ra7c7er Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I can't wait. Just wish they were showing the entire 24 hours. I don't understand how speed thinks reruns of Monster Jam, Pass Time, and wrecked get better viewership than the race would. I stay up the entire 24 hours to watch/listen to the 24 hours of LeMans. and I would for Daytona too. Has anyone heard if Speed is teaming up radio Le Mans again this year to show/air the entire 24 hours of Le Mans?
935k3 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I hope Speed does not forget about Lemans. Unfortunately according to the American Lemans Series website schedule of events Speed is not covering any ALMS races. They will be on ABC or ESPN2 including the new Baltimore street race. I guess they need more time for their stupid reality tv shows.

The gave Speed more rights to more races if Speed dropped ALMS they didn't think that other outlets were so high on the bandwagon to cover the races.
Guest Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 If NASCAR ran more races on network tv instead of cable, maybe their viewership would go up, I no longer have cable, and get to see few races.
gunner Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I'll watch all the F-1 races and ALMS and anything else other than Nascar. I think this season will show Nascar for the boobs they are. they will not be happy until they drive all tv viewers away.

Sad fact is that this year the ALMS is trumpeting their "groundbreaking" deal to televise the races on ABC or ESPN2, and live stream the races via ESPN3 and the ALMS website. The ABC/ESPN2 TV coverage will be recaps of the races, a day after the fact. Let's just say we can call it the "1 and a half hours of Sebring" or "The Petit Petit LeMans The ALMS also conveniently glossed over the fact that there would be ZERO live televised coverage of any ALMS races. You want it live? You better have a good internet connection. You want to watch the race on a big screen w/your racing buddies? You better have some way to hook up your TV to your internet. You want to record the race? Good luck with that Speed apparently demanded that the ALMS pay 100% of the production costs for all the races...obviously Speed is controlled by the same folks that have control over the Rolex/Grand Am series. Nice turn of events, eh? I have to wonder how much Speed will strangulate LeMans this year. I have a feeling it won't be that many more years before the only way to see LeMans will be via the internet. Speed Channel is a cancer. Imagine if people were told the Superbowl, the Daytona 500, etc. were going to be recaps the next day, or live only via the web.
935k3 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 This whole thing re-enforces my theory that McDonalds, Walmart and NASCAR are plotting to rule us all.
gunner Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Makes you wonder about the back room deal for 40 hrs of live Barret Jackson coverage. It was interesting but a bit over kill.
CAL Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 whooohoo Go Lizards. Looks like a the 10 Porsche GT3 RS VS 9 Mazda RX8s and a just a couple BMWs, Camaros, and Ferrari each tossed in. I donno what possible better programming the could have on to draw in more audience than the Rolex 24. No word on the Circuit de la Sarthe yet.
