I have a question, i have thousands of parts so when someone is looking for a part, i would rather just send the part to them because i would rather help a modeler out with there project. Yes sometimes ive needed a part and people have stepped right up and alsp not wanted anything for the part, but heres my question First question when ive sent these parts out sometimes the person tells me i will consider it Pay it foward, ok what is that, the next question, This has happen alot at other forums why is it when you send something to someone they never contact you to say thank you, or i got the part or even if it was the right one .....Darrin

"Pay it forward"

This is a reference to the title phrase of the book by Catherine Ryan Hyde.

In the book the phrase is used as the opposite of payback: when someone does a good dead for you, instead of paying them back, pay it forward by doing a good deed for someone else"

I know where you're coming from, and I'm sure I've forgoten to let someone know a part they sent arrived, etc., but I look at it the same as holding a door open for someone. You should do it becasue it makes you fell good, not because you expect a "Thank you" in return. be happy with what you did, and if you get something back, be it a "Thanks", some parts you can use, or just a note letting you know they got it, consider that a bonus. Not receiving thanks from someone for doing them a favor is exactly what it looks like: ingratitude from a jerk. Don't help them out again.

Darrin Pay it Forward means that someone did you a favor like sending you what you needed now its your turn to help someone else out, I agree with you there are so many people on here that don't ask for nothing in return cept that when you get the chance help someone else out, I just sent 5 parts out this past week and only 1 said Thanks, Not that I'm looking for a thanks but at least say if you got the part.Hope this sence I sometimes ramble on :)

this is a great place for paying it forward because there are so many people who are good to deal with on here

i do enjoy hearing that whatever i send out got there well, i know i sent out 2 sets of decals 8 days ago, im sure they must have reached thier destinations by now but i havent had any conformation from iether recipiant

but we are not alone in this, even our Lord went trough this in Luke 17 when He cleansed 10 lepers and only one came back and thank Him

so were in good company :)

Though my judgment is harsh, I must agree that goodness is its own reward. But I just don't understand why the recipients of that goodness do not acknowledge it.

I always thank people for sending me things even if is a trade.

I also have tons of parts but sadly most I don't know what they are. When I do know something though I always pass it on.

Take some pics and post them. There is a huge base of knowledge here and most people like to play the "what is this" game, especially when it comes to model parts.

There are many kind builders here who have sent me parts with nothing asked in return. I also try to return that favor. This forum is a great resource for this.

I have to agree with both of you here, because even though I was taught to help people in need, I was also taught that politeness includes a "Please" and a "Thank You" also. I have sent some parts just strictly on a "I don't need it and it will help you out, don't worry about anything in return." attitude, including the couple dollars on postage and tracking numbers. It just makes me feel good that I might have been able to help a project stay from being boxed back up and stay on the bench and give the builder that critical part they needed.

As for your earlier post Skip, I do agree that even though I do get that warm, fuzzy feeling just knowing I helped a fellow builder in need, if I don't get a thanks, I may not be as willing to part with something as easily in the future. Fortunately, everyone I've dealt with here I don't have to worry about that. :)

Hi everyone.... I have been given parts to help me out and have given parts to others to help out too. I always send them a Thank you...its the least I could do for the help. I save everything I dont use on a build...someone may need it for theirs.
