hookedonplastics Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 This was a build that was inspired by a Bob Downie article. I had not built anything for well over a year, and I needed something to get me back into the spirit. I decided to build this model with no aftermarket additions - just detail painting and BMF. I offer my sincere apologies to Bob up front for copying his build, but they as they say - "Plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery". I even tried Bob's technique of using a gel pen to create my own white walls. I love the end result.
exnyman Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 An exceptionally clean build! I like the facy taht you chose to model the base model Mustang.
oldscool Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 That's a great looking Mustang . And you got the whitewalls in the right place. A lot of people put them too close to the tread. oldscool
hookedonplastics Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Thank you Jim. Actually, when I was young, the driving influence for me to build models were two of my older cousins. They specialized in base model and stock builds. Their entire collection looked like detailed promos. I especially liked when they would replicate a vinyl roof car.
hookedonplastics Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Thank you for noticing my attention to detail, Gerald.
Zoom Zoom Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 I saw the photo and said "wow, that looks like mine" then I read the story...nice job! Needless to say, I love it Thanks for the comments, glad it inspired you!
hookedonplastics Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 Thanks a lot, Bob! I am sure you have inspired a great many of us!
Nick Winter Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 That's Very nice, Infact I'm a GM guy but that Mustang is very appealing all of the sudden. Nick

hookedonplastics Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 Thanks for the kind words guys! And Nick, do you mean that I might persuade you to leave the "dark" side?
george 53 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Russ, what kinda paint did you use, and what color? it came out REALLY nice! :D

hookedonplastics Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 George, The paint was Model Master Custom Lacquer "Citrus Yellow Metallic" over Tamiya White Primer and clear coated with Future Floor Wax. How anyone can call that "yellow" is beyond me.....
Nick Winter Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Thanks for the kind words guys! And Nick, do you mean that I might persuade you to leave the "dark" side? I wouldn't Say leave I'd say Visit
Kanedge Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Sweet build to get out of a slump. And it goes to prove that you don't need aftermarket parts to build a great model.
Crusader101 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 That's one terrific build....and the detail to the wheels is exceptional...beautiful work!
