Bastardo Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Ok, so I started this monster on 01.02.2011 as my 5 cents to a group-build on some other board. The theme is something like "Your own interpretation of a death-race vehicle you'd like to have". Or something like that... Anyway... Quite some progress has been done and I'll post some shots here. I hope the pics will scream loud enough, but in case they're too quiet, ask me anything you'd like to know The model is a 1/24 die-cast from Maisto. In case I haven't mentioned before: I LOVE modifying die-casts The wheels are from some toy-car, most of the stuff has been scratch built using the Evergreen profiles and all kinds of junk that lies around my hobby room Ok, the pics Out of the box:
Bastardo Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) Butchered: Just thinkin.......... On the wheels already: Edited March 2, 2011 by Bastardo
Bastardo Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 Added some protection to the door: A few more pieces of styrene on the body: Evergreen profiles turned into a base of the front bull-bar: Mount for the bull-bar: A dry-fit:
Bastardo Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 Rear-end bull-bar: Rear bumper: A floor-piece: Added some pieces to the mount to make it stronger:
Bastardo Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 All this...: ... turns into this: The gun moves up and down and the whole roof platform is on a bearing so it rotates freely 360° A quick dry-fit:
Bastardo Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 Abused some wire lol and got this: Inner door panels got replaced with some more serious stuff: The way the cage will (not) be seen in a car: Gotta protect the gunman : Engine cover started getting some texture:
Bastardo Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 Since the roof-gun will be operated by the gunman, I had to provide a toy for the driver: The radiator: The engine cover got the last pieces of wire: Started work on the fuel tank: Tank's place in the car:
Ghost1 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Great concept and build. Nice job on fabing the extra parts.
Bastardo Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 Thanx, guys There are PLENTY of ideas in my head, but the problem is that a day doesn't have at least 56 hours... Got some progress done: New exhaust: No, it will NOT be pink in the end New exhaust on the car: Helicopter-transport hooks are mounted: Tow hooks are mounted to the front and back bumpers: Started work on the pulleys (not sure this is the right word...): To do: - Add some hand-held weapons into the car - Fire extinguishing system - CB station - Add some details to the dashboard - Aerials - Some other small bits 'n pieces And then she'll get her first primer coat
Bastardo Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 Darn it... My PB account got out-band-with-ed-thingy, so I had to open a new one... But some progress has been done and here are some shots: Upper left: A machinegun Upper right: The machinegun with a bracket, mounted on the dash Lower left: 2 pulleys Lower right: Air intake Upper left: Fire extinguisher (I probably misspelled this one...) Upper right: First aid kit Lower left: CB station Lower right: A slingshot... Don't ask... And EVERYTHING is scratchbuilt
MikeMc Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Cool stuff......You and Doc Cranky should have a shootout!!
Tony T Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Nice work on the scratchbuilding! You did spell fire extinguisher correctly, by the way!
Bastardo Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Thanx, fellas Stasch: Not sure I wanna do that because I don't know who'll roll over who Tony T: So I did at least one thing right lol
Bastardo Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 Not much of a progress, but I started drilling holes for some pins to come in and make it look like the metal plates have been riveted to the undercarriage:
LAone Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 wow, that is a mean looking hummer. would hate to see that coming up on my rear view. your scratch building is fantastic. keep up the great work.

trogdor Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 looks like someone has a bottle of Dr Cranky's elixir
Jantrix Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Very impressive work. Definitely my kinda builder.
Bastardo Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 (edited) Thanx for the replies, guys! made007: lol, here's the story: As I was working on my Citroen C2 Gnome project one of my friends on some other forum asked me to put a slingshot in it just for fun... Didn't do it back then and he's been all over my screen due to that ever since So I decided to do him a favour and put a slingshot in this one, just for the fun and irony of it trogdor: This Hummer is for a group build on makete.net (Slovenian forum) and the build started just a bit before Dr. Cranky posted shots of his zombie molester I respect all his work and skills and having a drop of that elixir wouldn't be a bad idea at all A bit of progress: Holles for the riverts are drilled and a few rivets have already been glued to the car: Let the fun continue Edited March 16, 2011 by Bastardo
Bastardo Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 Riveting is completed: Hopefully she'll get some primer next week
