Wow, thanks Mike, for the system information. It definitely looks like a great thing to have . . . I'm checking out.

I'm glad the paint mixture is working out for ya! ;)

I store my paints in the bottles and containers they come in. They last for years like this. When I am mixing my own colors or acrylics, I use bottles I get here:

Awesome videos. Virgil you are teaching me alot through these. I have experimented for years trying to find a simple, and cost effective way to paint with automotive paint. HOK has been one of the easiest to use by far with very good results. keep the information coming it is priceless.

Thanks, Gabriel, but you know in the last couple of years I've been trying out Auto Air Colors and I'm in and out of love with that one. It's a great paint, but you have to stop to dry with the hairdryer. Light coats, lots of hair drying, but it's a water-based paint (easy on the cleanup) that takes most clears really well. I use it, although not as much as HOK.

Tommy.....are these "Kustom Kolor" paints by valspar.....because if thats what the are....that reducer will not work with them. Those non HOK paints are made in the same colors as HOK, and Valspar made those for wally world, then ww got out of plastic a few years ago, hence those paints are out there cheap....look carefully ;):D :D

Stasch-

No these are 1 oz bottles that are labled

House of Kolor

I've gotten Nova Orange, Cinder red, Lime Gold Pearl, Galaxie Silver(?), Light Teal Metallic and a few others.

I believe Black Gold was one of the first companies to sell HOK in very small portions, so you might be looking at the real stuff. Maybe someone else can confirm that.

Thanks, buddy, yeah, my memory served me well that time. I think HOK must have realized there was a market it selling the stuff by the ounce because they started selling it uncut. 2 and 4 ounces without reducer. The Coastairbrush got into the action. That who I get mine from.

I'll probably be ordering some 2oz bottles along with the "Plastic Caps, Black Polypro Ribbed Snap Top Cap" #2515-05. They seem to be the caps that come on the HOK bottles of pre-mixed paint.

Doing a little research, I find that they sell bottles with the cap. The 2oz version is 0001-44 and is $21.60 for 48 of them.

Anybody up for sharing an order of bottles/caps? I could maybe use 12. I wonder if Michaels or HL plastic bottles?

Jim, I find that I go through quite a bit of bottles because I mix my own colors, etc . . . but you might find you will eventually use all 48!

Wow i did not realize the size difference in the bottles until I went back. I will be ordering some for sure but not right now. How much was shipping?

Like the blue Pontiac with the black panels on the top, side, trunk, hood. And how you did the brown Mercury with the different gold & brown colors on it.

I would just like some pointers on the paint work, and how its done. Done some two tone paint jobs, which worked out good. I just bought some H O C's paint for my 68 Road Runner, never did this kind of paint before. So I been watching what you have to say and any other pointers that I get on that type of paint.

Terry, I just saw Steve get on, so I am sure he'll explain how to get started. My advice is to start simple, maybe cut some thin tape strips and do some basic masking and spraying on the sides of your vehicles just to get started.

Simple steps to do one type of paint job:

1) paint the whole car in your body color of choice.

2) mask with tape above the waistline of your vehicle . . . as if you were going to do a two-tone, exactly . . .

3) spray second color . . .

4) cut some tape in fine strips and make a simple design, straight lines say, 3-5, then

5) once you have the tape down, spray some clear over the tape to avoid bleedthrough . . .

6) now spray new color (this will be the final color on the side panels.

7) remove tape and you should now have a vehicle with 3 colors and it should look pretty cool.

Whatever you end up trying, share it back with us, please . . . good luck.

Steve, no, buddy, you can take all the space and time . . . it's what this is for, to help each other out . . . I'd be interested to know how you do a simple two-tone with graphics . . . that would be excellent.

Um, Yea,

You should never use different brands of paint products with each other,, never use the cheap laquer thinner for you'r paint, always use the best airbrush you can get because a cheap one won't cut it.

Because you'd never be able to get a paintjob like this if you do that,

114_1474-vi.jpg

114_1466-vi.jpg

114_1472-vi.jpg

OH. Yea .. I did all those things.

BIN shellac primer

several different shades of HOK and Duplicolor laquer ,, some mixed together and thinned with the cheap store brand laquer thinner

Duplicolor spraybomb clear

All shot through a Badger 350.

But please don't try this at home kids ,, because it don't work.

Awesome paint job on that Mopar Steve and a great lookin' build to boot!

Virgil.... Thanks for the Great tutorial man, that was a really good video. I personally have always used PPG's basecoat/clear coat paints... DBU and DBC and love them. Just ordered a bunch of HOK airbrush sized paints and reducers. Going to be shooting a 1/16th scale Front Engine Dragster today, in which I will have pics of the paint up on my post later in the drag racing section.

I have to share where I got my paints just cause I found that they had a great price and are paints directly from House of Kolor and not pre-mixed or repackaged by pouring from a quart size can to smaller sized bottles. But another source for the HOK paints is from Smart Shoppers Inc.com. Prices are very resonable... $11.50 for a 4oz air brush bottle of paint.

Thanks, Chris, that does sound like a great deal because with 4oz of uncut stuff, you can make a lot of paint! ;)

Oh, can you give me the specs on what PPG clear you use?

You are welcome Virgil, btw I love your builds and posts, you have a talent man.

I am using PPG Deltron Concept 2020 (DCU2020) which they don't make this anymore but they make a DCU2021 now. They are a Urethane Clear. Here is a pic of the clear, hardner and reducer:
