Hey guys, here's my latest kit!

I've already completed the roof chop and hidden the rear wheel arches entirely. I'm now working on paint and chassis parts to finish the car off.

The top is chopped, the body mouldings all completely shaved and paintwork is mostly completed, however a tad poorly

this is a nice kit. the instructions are terrible though and it comes with a few pieces in the kit that you have to figure out what to do with on your own. i had a few fitment issues but other than that it was a great build. i like the idea you got going on over there but your chop was a bit sloppy with the putty. you filled in all the panel lines. do you have to climb through the windows to get in? i like your paint i just would have scribed around the doors and trunk before paint.

The chop looks great. However it looks like you painted before the body mods were completely smoothed and finished.

Further plans?

Yeah I'll admit, this was my first chop ever. it turned out okay but I noticed with this kit that the door lines weren't very deep in the first place. I'll make sure to scribe them next time.

I have to say I've never used THAT body filler...........:(:P

At least on a model ;)

Yep, I use automotive body filler because I'm very accustommed to working with it.

XJ6, I used a plain Purple auto paint then misted hot pink over the top to get a speckled effect. Looks pretty cool hey?

So far so good Spud!

I like your thinking when it comes to paint and colors. It looks like something happened on the front fenders? Did you break something or did the paint react?

Unfortunately due to modifications I made to the chassis it didn't like lining up with the body so i used masking tape to help it adhere to the body. The masking tape somehow reacted with the paint and ate into it. Cheers for the comment mate :(

My experience with paint comes from my father, he used to be a pannel beater and told me a heap of old tricks from his childhood and teenage years that they used to do to make there cars stand out on a budget. Sometimes resurecting styles from the past really makes a model stand out. That and combining flames with two tone is something I've wanted to try for ages!

I too have had masking tape react. 3M blue painters tape and Tamiya spray can laquers do NOT get along.

I too like the flake effect.

If enough people are interested I can do an instructional tutorial video on "Pastel Speckle" painting. Under 5 minutes sound okay? Let me know and I'll whack it together for ya.
