Dr. Cranky Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Just wrapped this one and I have to say no matter how you slice, chop, dice, cut, rip into the Revell 49 Merc. Geez, what it is about shiny paint and its ability to draw up lint and flecks of dust!
Dr. Cranky Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 Just another round to show the mods . . .
Alyn Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Revell's 49 Merc was one of the first kits in my stash. It's been sitting there because I didn't want to build "just another flamed & chopped Merc". Unfortunately, the inspiration to come up with something fresh hasn't hit me. You have found it. This is the most original 49 Merc in recent memory. But that should be expected. No one comes up with more originality than you. Awesome concept Awesome execution gimmy the keys!
Dr. Cranky Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 Thanks, everyone. I really appreciate it. I keep thinking of one of the most important reasons I take photographs of the builds and the look at them closely, for the stuff I've forgotten like the reflector lights in the front . . . and I still have to put a couple of details in the engine bay . . .
ajulia Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 AHHHH! the good ole sled strikes again and wit the Doc on the scene another home run fella !Really love the chop and that deep blue packs a mean punch! ajulia
Trae Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 That's just gorgeous. I especially like the interior design - perfect compliment to the exterior.
Custom Hearse Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) That is beautiful!!! You always "CRANK" out the coolest models Virgil! Edited April 14, 2011 by Custom Hearse
Dr. Cranky Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 Thanks for the kind words, chaps . . . if you want to see more of it, here is the vid:
Custom Hearse Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Well I will definitely stay tuned in for more! Nice vid! What paint did you use on the car?
Dr. Cranky Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 Thanks, Russell. I used "Midnight Blue" from House of Kolor (air brushed), with pearlescence blue pearls mixed with SG-100 (airbrushed), then 4 coats of Dupont clear coat (Rattle can). Then lots of Cranky style spit shinin'!
Peter Lombardo Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Hey Doc, I love the color...deep rich blue...sweet! You have become rather prolific lately...every time I tune in, you have something new to show. One question...what happens down there in Florida when you are out with that car and the omnipresent afternoon thunder-boomer comes along?
Mooneyzs Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Virgil, Very nice build, She's a beauty for sure. What color is that? Keep up the great work buddy.
Dr. Cranky Posted April 15, 2011 Author Posted April 15, 2011 The people in Florida, in particular around Orlando where it will begin to hail for no apparent reason and who have convertibles have learned to speed up to about 150 and remain dry as they drive! Actually everyone down here with classic cars checks the weather every single time.
stewart Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Nice merc. Despite the attraction of lint and dirt to shiny paint, you did an awesome job with it. STewart
spad007 Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 Grab the cat and rub a comb on it then hold it over in and around the car watch out for it's claws. Just Kidding DR Cranky. no this is one of the best murc's i have ever seen. and i always liked the one in "Streets of Fire" there was one down the street when i was a kid had the sides dished in like a Vet. Yours is much better by far. Well Done Sir!
gilsdropshop1 Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 another bad ass ride Dr.Cranky love the color and interior too!!
pharr7226 Posted April 15, 2011 Posted April 15, 2011 (edited) Thanks, Russell. I used "Midnight Blue" from House of Kolor (air brushed), with pearlescence blue pearls mixed with SG-100 (airbrushed), then 4 coats of Dupont clear coat (Rattle can). Then lots of Cranky style spit shinin'! Beautiful finish Doc! I looked at the data sheet for HOK SG100 and was surprised to see that it is an intercoat clear. It's listed on HOK's urethane page, but it does not require a catalyst. I assume that it's a urethane, but I'm not sure. Is it a urethane? Edited April 15, 2011 by pharr7226
