BOSWELL891 Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Im new to airbrushing and i was wondering to tamiya jar paints need to be pre thinned before shooting them through an airbrush? And if they do how would you thin them
curt raitz Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Yes...they need to be thinned best thinner is Tamiya's own acrylic thinner thin to a "milk-like" consistancie
MrObsessive Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 To add to that.........stir the paint slowly. Don't shake them up or whip them mightily, as this will make air bubbles that will show up on your surface. HTH!
Agent G Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Tamiya acrylic thinner is a good choice and I use it frequently but, Tamiya's own laquer thinner is a good reducer also. I use it exclusively on armor and the results are all I could ask for. Goes on thin, dries fast and is durable with normal handling. Each airbrush has it's own idea on thinned paint based on air pressure. "Milk like" is a good start. Have fun! G
charlie8575 Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 70% alcohol will also work, but it dulls the finish a bit. I found that the semi-gloss black thinned with 70% alcohol makes it a much more-believable level of gloss. Best thing to do is experiment and see what you like best. Charlie Larkin
