sportandmiah Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I've been researching airbrushes and found some no name, double action airbrushes on ebay for $30 and under. Anyone have any experience with these asian made airbrushes? I know you get what you pay for, but are these any good? How about the harbor freight double action?
Longbox55 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 The HF double action isn't too bad for the price. It does seem to be sensative to certain finishes, Dupli Color Paint Shop didn't do well through it, anyway. While I would not put it in shame catagory as a Paasce (my weapon of choice), Badger, Iwata, or Grex, I can suggest them for basic airbrushing or starting out without laying out alot of money. This one was done with an HF airbrush.
mrmike Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I had one of those no-name airbrushes at one time that came with a no-name compressor that I bought off eBay and I was more than happy to get rid of it. I'll stick with my Badger Universal 360, thank you! If you are looking to get started with an inexpensive airbrush, get one from a name brand (Badger, Iwata, Paasche) and in a few years, upgrade to a better airbrush.
sportandmiah Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 So I went and spent a whopping $11.00 on the Harbor Freight airbrush, and it's probably the best $11.00 I've ever spent. With a 20% coupon, I spent $17.00 on the double action brush and the hose. It's smooth, paints nicely, and perfect for me as a beginner.
935k3 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Another reason to stay with the well known makers is the availability of parts.

I cant get mine to work though mine is the single action suction fed. I want gravity fed but Ill have to wait. Anyone with advice on paint not going through? Is the needle to close?

Anyone with advice on paint not going through? Is the needle to close? Nozzle could be plugged. Soak it in lacquer thinner. Also check to make sure all parts of nozzle are tight - I am not familiar with the HF airbrush, but I spent an hour cleaning and re-cleaning my nozzle and needle only to find one part wasn't tight and it couldn't get suction.
Kaleb Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Ill try that and double check everything thanks...I'm ready to get it going.
Jeff Johnston Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 dixieart.com you can get a badger 175 for $75 delivered. I have had mine fixed twice, for free. All you need to do is send it to Badger and they will fix it and ship it back...all it costs is for you to send it. That's the route I would take. I love my 175. I swear by it.
tabsscale1 Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 If you have a Hobby Lobby close to you they have what Iwata puts out called a Neo airbrush. The one i bought is gravity fed double action . Sells for $59.99 and the siphon one is $69.99 get one of their 40% off coupon and the airbrush is under $45. You still need a hose for it but Harbor freight sells a hose that fits right on it. I love mine. I would probably use any one of the 7 I have when i comes to painting but that Neo will be my first choice for right now.
