Jim Gibbons Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Neat video. A few days ago, I was sitting on my north facing front porch in Poughkeepsie, NY, and happened to look up to see a large jet aircraft heading to the east. At first glance, it appeared to be nothing more than a passenger jet, but then I saw four much smaller aircraft in formation to the rear. Even though it was at high altitude (I'd guess about 35,000 feet,) I could see that it appeared to have a tail mounted engine in addition to the ones on the wings, so it was probably a KC-10 tanker. The fighters were way too distant (and small) to see what they were. I thought it was neat, as I had never seen what appeared to be an aerial refueling before. It's a good feeling to know the USAF is around, along with all the other US Armed Forces. My niece's husband just returned from his third deployment in Afghanistan; I believe he was part of the formation that President Obama honored at Ft. Campbell recently.
diymirage Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 i used to live in a city called Volkel, right outside of an combine Dutch/US airforce base every year they would have an open house during which time the local F-16 squadrons would show off thier skills and they would be practicing weeks in advance i remember one time sitting on the deck enjoying a nice quiet afternoon when all of a sudden this F-16 swoops down and pulls up over the house like he was inspecting the chimney
Erik Smith Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Um, China? According to my quick search the People's Liberation Army Air Force has 2500+ aircraft and 330,000 personnel. That would be number 2, and probably growing. Why does Sweden have the 8th (or ninth if you count China) largest air force?
sjordan2 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 (edited) That guy reeeeally needs to learn how to spell... He probably doesn't have the personel to proof the titles. (But this appears to be an Israeli website, so English would not be his first language.) Edited May 15, 2011 by sjordan2
Greg Myers Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 Nice music, beautiful background landscapes, unusual aricraft of the world, and Harry finds fault with an translation from Israeli to english. How many F-4 Phantom II's did you count ?
george 53 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Moreso, how many OTHER countries are flying AMERICAN aircraft in THEIR air forces.
Draggon Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I thot it sorta ironic to have Enya as the background music. That being said, Its Great To Be An American!!
Harry P. Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Nice music, beautiful background landscapes, unusual aricraft of the world, and Harry finds fault with an translation from Israeli to english. There's no such language as "Israeli"...
Agent G Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 It's translated from Hebrew. If you know that language, the english verbage makes sense as it is literally translated. G

China probably got left out because it is under army control rather than a stand alone independent service, air forces tend to have a bit of snobbery about that.
