i think anyone living in those areas should move while they have a chance. i know it's home, but when it fights you, you know its time to go.

I'm glad all the members of MCM that are in MO seem to be Ok ! I live in Independence which is about 189 miles from the heart of the storms this week end We only got rain !

I work for walmart in Harrisonville, Mo its a huge DC and we spent all night last night filling trucks full of food , paper goods, and soaps to ship down there to help everyone! We were told that our store was totally smashed and that we had lost 4 works with more hurt or missing ! I don't work during week so i have no clue if the number has grown yet but if your in the area and need help of any kind make your way to the wal mart unit and they will be able to help where it may be needed !

May God bless everyone of my Modeling brothers that may be in need of help !

The Wal-Mart on 7th and Schifferdecker was untouched, but the one on 15th and Rangeline was decimated...

More severe storms are on the way to Joplin, as well as west central Missouri where I live. The NWS has just named pretty much every county in western Missouri as having a rough night coming... Take care everyone, and take cover if necessary...

Why?

That's what I keep asking myself.

Such random yet complete destruction. It makes me wonder... :D

There is a book that talks of these things and others that are going on. I'll say no more for it causes very heated arguments.

That's the scary part... Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. I pray that they are able to get to some shelter that will keep them safe...

A friend of mine in NW Joplin, MO jus' reported to me that a mutual friend of our's mother lived 3.5 to 4 blocks from St. John's Hospital. She and her son (who lives just west of Joplin barely outside the city limits) were in Branson for the weekend only for her to come home to NOTHING, not even her pet goldfish, Sharky. His house was fine and she is staying with him. Another friend of mine is riding out the nights and storms in his Storm Shelter under what was his home. Using a Generator for power mainly to power a small fridge, microwave, and phone charger for his cell phone.

I say a prayer every day and night to God to send angels to help assist those in the search for the missing and give strength to those alive and still buried to hang on a li'l longer, help is on the way.

That says it all. What a horrible, terrifying mess. We get a few tornadoes around here, but usually very small. The Worcester Tornado of 1953, with another one in Great Barrington in 1994 were the most destructive in recent memory. Another very small, but very powerful one passed through a little town called Wendell (pop. <1000,) in 2006 and felled several acres of trees. I remember that, as I was living but a few miles from it at that time.

Let's hope we start hearing more good news.

The Worcester Tornado is featured here. 1953 Worcester Tornado

We were lucky. Just some roof damage.

Glad to see you are okay! I was watching the satellite and remembered that you lived down in Noel . I was praying that everything would be okay where you lived.

Thanks for the picture of the flying J, I'd heard it sustained damage. Be safe...

I just read that the death toll is at 125, and they rated this tornado at EF-5, The highest rating a tornado can get...

Here was the scene in the lot of the Flying J in Joplin. It's just 35 miles North of my home. We were lucky. Just some roof damage.

Wow, we've driven past that place when going to Branson many, many times

Is that where the Chrome Shop Mafia shop is at?

Loons from Westboro Baptist "Church" are planning to be there Sunday to protest Pres. Obama and Gov. Nixon. Might not be a smart move on their part.

I tell ya what, if I lived in that area, the first thing I'd build is an underground storm shelter!!!! I can't believe we aren't hearing of people that had one and were able to ride out the storm safely in them???

If they do, I won't feel one bit sorry for them if something happens to them while they're there B)

Were that to happen, I suppose the only truly Supreme Court will be issuing its ruling. I would just hope it would be concentrated enough to cause no more damage. These poor people have been through far too much as it is.

X2... Those people push their "views" to the limit. What I think would be hilarious, would be to go to the funeral of one their own and protest it...

The Chrome Shop Mafia is 7 miles away. It was not in the path of the storm. Kenworth, which was across the highway from the Flying J, also was basically destroyed. The body shop was torn down and the main buidling, along with lots of brand new trucks, sustained heavy damage.

A big Howdy to Marshall and all the Missouri modelers posting here. It appears the members of 4-States Modelers Club @ Joplin made it through the tornado.

There was one place they went to protest that was quite unappreciative of their presence, the groups minivan ended up with 4 flat tires and not only would nobody other than the area Walmart would sell them new ones, but they couldn't get a tow and had to drive the van there to have them installed. They better hope that somebody down there doesn't snap and do anything worse than that..............

Marshall--I agree with you my friend, I think they are in for a smack-down in Joplin.

Bill--Good to hear from you, glad you the missus are Ok, we still have three club members we haven't heard from yet.

This type of stuff makes you think about how unpredictable things can be. I just watched the weather channel today to see whats up now in the country, They brought the Joplin Toronado up, And before it happened it had a 4 out of 10 chance on the TOR-CON scale of happening, This Tornado surpassed the Beecher Toronado from 1953, That one was also the system that brought the Worchester one on June 9th of that year. I have been having nightmares since I watched it live on TWC On Sunday. Now if we go under a watch,Of any kind, My wife and I are getting the the car and heading to my parents house, We have no basement in our condo. And It freaked me out so bad, I woke up monday shaking,I live no where even near there, I cannot even imagine that horror those people went through. My hearts go out to all of the familys of all of the Toronadoes that has hit in the past month, And I plan on donating some money to help out on rebuilding peoples lives. And to all of you on here from that state , I am thankfull you are alright.

Who are they Rick? I hope they come out of this safe and unhurt. I think it's gonna be bad tomorrow...

Keep your family safe Steve! If you do see or hear of a tornado in the area that is headed your way while driving, get everyone into a low lying ditch and stay down. DO NOT drive into an underpass. The tornadic winds will multiply inside of it and give it a wind tunnel effect... Be safe my friend.
