Guys,

I have been carving on this thing for over a year, and it's finally presentable. Aside from a few finishing details, I'm calling it DONE!

Mike

BTW, it's a an old Johan body, hood, glass, grill, tail lights and bumpers. Everything else is from an AMT '68 RR kit, and the engine is from a '67 GTX.....

Just beautiful....Metallic Blue is the right color for this car. Back in the day, a good friend of mine had a real one very close to this. His had a white interior though. Very clean build.

Thanks for the compliments guys. The color is a slightly 'candied' Tamiya Racing Blue with clearcoat. I sprayed a very thin candy blue coat just before the clear.......just to give it depth. I may need to hit it with a little more polish to make it just right. I also noticed in the pics that the little 'Plymouth' decal on the front edge of the hood is flaking. It never ends!

Honestly, I am not a big fan the whole big wheel thing, but THAT IS STUNNING! Now, just throw some redlines & torque thrusts on it...<g>

All kidding aside, that is VERY impressive. Nice work

!! You and I must think alike. The redlines and Torque Thrusts were my very first choice. The engine started taking on a different flavor during the build, which (IMO) warranted a different wheel choice. For the record, I just picked up a different set of air cleaners which will replace the triangular ones that are on the car now. I have a few more underhood components that need to be attached as well.

all i can say is WOW!!

beautiful build, very nice detail, that exhaust is amazing

Thanks! The exhaust is aluminum tubing. I threaded an appropriately sized 'flatwound' bass guitar string through the tubing, bent to shape, and gradually pulled the bass string out as I went along. The possibilities are endless with this technique. I am a luthier (guitar repairman) by trade, and came up with the idea in my shop a while back. After I tried it, I was like "DUH!" Hey!.....you all heard it here first! :D

After the exhaust was bent to fit the model, I polished it on my bench grinder fitted with a flannel buffing wheel and some rouge. The two little exhaust hangers are stainless wire.

By the way, you can buy a set of Fender 'flatwound bass guitar strings at your local music store. They run about $15, but you'll have 4 different sized strings that'll fit an assortment of different sized tubing. Bass guitar strings also come in 6-string sets. For the uninitiated, that's SIX differently sized strings!

Thanks guys. That's what's great about this Forum........up until now, most of my models just sat in a display case in my clubroom, or worse yet, in the boxes after they were finished. Most of my friends and family just aren't into model cars, and can't understand what goes into building. But YOU guys on the other hand.......YOU guys are just as sick as I am! And that's a good thing! Thanks to Cruz (fellow Baltimorian), for turning me on to the MCMF.

Looking forward to meeting some of you at the Mid-Atlantic NNL in Towson, Maryland on May 12th.

Oh yeah, this is too cool. Just beautiful! Great job, and welcome to the forum!

Thanks again Matt. This Forum has seriously rejuvenated my interest in building models. I would have never known that this many people were as sick as I am! :D
