I found out about a video hosting service that will upload videos from your hardrive. I figure.......hmmm.....why not show a quick video of my '58 Impala Conv. working windows.

Some of you have seen the car in person at shows, but there are some that have never seen the car's working feature.

I'm kinda new at this video hosting stuff so I hope it shows up as planned.

As I mentioned in a previous post, there's no sound, just the video..................let me know guys if this is not showing up or the page is down.

Also here's a link to my Fotki album of the model.....

Bill, I get this page can not be found.

Not that I'll ever forget seeing that in person. That is so cool!!

I've taken two movies on my camera, one of Toaster Pete's SAE van and one of a 1/64 Porsche jumping from one box to the next. I'd like to upload them at some point.

Bill...Bill...Bill... when are you going to get your skills up to speed? I mean, displaying these hacked together quickie builds must be an ego rush, but how about something really good! :P

I'm kidding. I know Bill personally and have seen many of his cars going together at CPMCC meetings over the years. I can remember when that Impala was nothing more than lotsa big & little pieces. He does amazing work. Big hands and all...

It was good seeing you in Maryland last weekend. Too bad we didn't talk more. As it was I barely saw the contest as me & Amy were catching up with everyone we haven't seen in a while.

Yo Maaaa!!! King Kong just grabbed a car and he's playing with it!!!!

I've read a lot about it but it is really cool to see it working. Thanks for sharing Bill....

Thanks,

Whoops!

First, thanks for the compliments guys..........I think Streamload's server had onions for dinner or something and now is getting miffed by so many hits! :P

Sometime this evening (if I have time) I'll try a different video hosting service (and maybe a longer showing) and we'll see how that works.

Stay tuned!

Oh for crying out loud . I've seen pictures but watching these actually work is awsome(an overused word to be sure but appropriate here)they work better than my real car .I'm extremely impressed are there photos of the inner workings of these windows? geez

 Thanks Randy!

No, unfortunately I don't have any in progress shots of the 'Vette and Impala working features because these were built before I got a digital camera.

Maybe one of the guys who goes to my club may have some older pics when I was building 'em but I don't know.

Here's a shot of the '64 GTO inner door and folding top when I was building it in '04 shortly after I got a digicam to give you an idea ;)

Unfortunately, the working frame is out of the car as I couldn't get a top material that looked in scale enough in 1/24 scale--------not to mention the windows are now warped because I used the wrong type of acetate. :)

A total redo is in order, but who knows when that'll be.............it's just put away in it's box now.

The fact that the windows roll up and down is impressive enough, but the fit and alignment are perfect. That is amazing.

I think this year you ought to display the shrink machine at NNL East, Bill. I've never seen one.

Bill Barrett.

That is some fantastic work. I have never seen a working top that looks so real. Fixing a real window is hard enough, but on a model unreal. Use your shrink ray in reverse if you can? You must show us how you did both.

Thanks James!

I got my digicam while in the middle of building the GTO so there's no in progress shots of the buildup of the top frame. The first few pics above were sent to me by a club member...........Basically I got a 1:1 assembly manual showing the top frame in it's various build stages as it comes down the line.

I then tried to "simplify" it for model purposes as it's not possible to include every nut, bolt and rivet in 1/24 scale without defying the law of physics ;) . The main part of the frame rails are H-channel brass while the header is brass rod with plastic fastened on using JB Weld. The top frame hinges were scratchbuilt, and "riveted" using small hex head brass bolts and tiny sliced pieces of brass tubing which were then soldered on the other end.

The top frame alone I remember took about a month to build and there were some redo's along the way! :P

Here's another pic of the frame out of the model with it partially collapsed taken at a past club meeting..........

BTW, here's the type of solder iron I use....it's the same type I use at work as I train people to solder at times..........

It's a Metcal unit that I got off eBay for around $100 (brand new $300!)...........I use various types of tips depending on what's needed-------from pinpoint to chisel types. I also have a Weller unit (adjustable temp) for various close joints when I need to use a eutectic solder which keeps things from falling apart and from me pulling my hair out! :P
