Ken#5fan Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Nice job Mark. Really like where this one is going, it is hard to beat them sixties NASCARs. Keep the updates coming.
MarkJ Posted July 21, 2011 Author Posted July 21, 2011 The thing I dislike most about a Nascar build is if the kit comes with a molded in exhaust system on the frame, it has to be removed. That is the way this old Johan kit came. Below are the steps I took to remove the exhaust. First I got out the sprue cutter. Then I got out the #11 exacto. Then I got out the bigger exacto (don't know the number). The I got out the sanding stick with various sanding belts. Then I glued some styrene on the back of the holes caused by the removal of the mufflers. Then I puttied the voids where the mufflers were. I sanded the putty and primed the frame this afternoon. I will try to get pictures soon of the results.
MarkJ Posted July 24, 2011 Author Posted July 24, 2011 Got the tires finished except for touching up the lug nuts. Got started on the exhaust.
MarkJ Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 Here's the real exhaust. Here is a Nichels exhaust from earlier in the season at the Atlanta 500.
Lanny Haas Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) Looking good...and It was very nice of them to turn her upside down to show you the headers Edited July 28, 2011 by Lanny Haas
MarkJ Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 Finally got the frame finished. All the subassemblies are finished so I can begin to assemble the model.
MarkJ Posted August 1, 2011 Author Posted August 1, 2011 (edited) No more wip pics. The next pics will be of the finished model. I got it assembled yesterday. All I lack is installing the tires , the fuel filler, the hood pins,Bare metal foil, back glass straps, decals, and future to seal the decals. Edited August 1, 2011 by MarkJ
MarkJ Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 I have everything done except for the BMF , decals and future. I think i figured out how to put a tiny stripe of bmf below the body side molding that goes along the fender door and quarter panel that I have already bmf'd. Its a parallel stripe the length of the molding.
LAone Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 i had to go back to the first page to remeber what this was about. gotta say, theres some nice scratchbuilding on your build. i like the headers. pretty wicked looking. well looking forward to your finished pics.
MarkJ Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 Now everything is done except for the back glass straps, decals and future. I just need to find the time to get it done. After further inspection the lug nuts appear to be black so I won't paint them.
oldscool Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 I've been waiting to see more of this one. gus
MarkJ Posted August 22, 2011 Author Posted August 22, 2011 (edited) I've been waiting to see more of this one. gus Gus, It's finished except for the decals and future to seal them. (testors decals tend to peel up on their edges with age if you don't seal them down with future). I don't want to post anymore pictures until it is completely finished. Thanks for your interest in the project. Edited August 22, 2011 by MarkJ
