Bruce Poage Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 So what is the latest thinking on the best way to paint the raised lettering on tires. I thik somewhere I read someone was putting a coat of white acrylic on an old CD and then "stamping" the tire sidewall on the white. Reaction?? My wife uses a white pencil to mark seam, etc. location when sewing. Just looking for ideas. Thanks to this think tank as usual.
biscayne63 Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Get a white pastel stick from a craft store and rub it over the raised letters. A shot of clear flat to seal it. Clean deal!
Jantrix Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 (edited) I have done it two ways. 1/ A sparp toothpick and some white acrylic paint. 2. A Gelly Roll white gel pen from Michaels. With a steady hand you can get good results with either. This was done with the toothpick. Edited July 24, 2011 by Jantrix
Monty Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Get a white pastel stick from a craft store and rub it over the raised letters. A shot of clear flat to seal it. Clean deal! I've got a friend who did a set of the Monogram Goodyear GT Radials (outline letters) with a white charcoal pencil. He said you just lightly scuff the surfaces, rub the pencil across the scuffed surfaces and carefully seal with a clear flat. His were the most realistic version of that tire I've ever seen.
scalenut Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I;ve had good results with a pencil eraser,,dab a real thin layer onto the eraser than dab onto the letters
Drake69 Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 I'll have to try that white charcoal pencil idea next time. I can't paint it on and I can't toothpick it on. Both attempts look like a child's crayon art class.
