Ok, seriously... the stars are a "rating system." Anyone can go to anyone else's Profile page and click on the stars. You have the choice of "rating" that person either one star, two stars, etc.

I'm not sure exactly how the overall rating is determined, though. I don't know if the star rating that shows is an overall average of all ratings, or if the star rating shows whatever rating the last person made. I think it will just show whatever rating the last person gave. So if I click on Member X's profile and rate him 4 stars, his star rating will show my 4 star rating until someone else goes in and rates him differently. At least I think that's how it works.

And if that is how it works, it's completely meaningless, since anyone can go in and give any star rating that they want, and the rating could jump from 1 star to 5 stars back to 2 stars, etc.

It would make more sense if the star rating shown was an average of all people's ratings, but I don't think it works that way.

yes, you get one for EVERY pointless smiley you post without any comments

Oh, relax. It's not going to happen again because someone whined and there's a new rule.

Besides, none of the smilies are pointless; they all have definitions or meanings; they all convey a thought or comment that doesn't have to be redundantly typed out in words. Every bit as communicative as endless "awesomes" piled on every less-than-mediocre build that gets posted.

My 2-cents worth. Every bit as valuable as your 2-cents worth. We can agree to disagree; no need to beat this dead horse any longer.

Case closed.

And here's a closing one for you:

A site sponsored popularity contest!

I've been on several sites that have it too and all it means is you have more "friends" than the other guy has!

So the stars are a popularity contest? What, are we in high school again?

It's built into the forum software. We have no control over it.

Same every where else too. Most people don't even know what it is or does and ignore it.

Yes. I am guessing (and going out on a limb here) that may... be a result of... OTHER FORUMS! Not just other model car forums. But stuff like, I dunno, water skiing, football, Bryers horses (why?) tap dancing, fart flaming, and many, many other forums. In other words, we are not alone here. Oh, and X-Files. Maybe software used by all those dumb things use the stars.

Why can't they be normal... like us? :D;)

i have seen it before on a certain forum where the same system was in place but it was based on "feedback"

so if i make a post that is very helpful then someone can go on my profile and leave positive feedback

then on the other hand, if i were to post a terrible model (lets say a general lee with opening doors) you could leave negative feedback

all this put together would make up a "score" for me that gives others a idea on how serious to take my post

also i think i know of one that the stars are like the old army rankings where your stars means your ranking and what authority you have on the board <_<

Now that's FUNNY right there!! It really made me laugh ... out loud.

If I could have, I would have posted just:

But I shouldn't, so I'll type all of this.
