Never done it myself, but I've heard of people using prescription bottles to make rear wheels tubs.

Posted

Thanks, Andy and Roger. Prescription bottle, what is that? (my bad english...) The rear wheel tubs are next step on the chassis, after I've done those, I can continue with some test fitting, and maybe more cutting if needed.

Niko... Look good. Wanted to tell you that i found a couple of those pics i mentioned a while back I will scan them later when i am home and post for you.

Niko, prescription bottles are what medicine comes in, like when the doctor gives you a slip of paper to take to the drugstore. And dont apologize for your english bro, you speak it better than some of the natives ( as in people raised speaking english ) :D

Great to hear, Chris! I'm looking forward to see them. And thanks Brett! I think, I might have some medicine bottles, or prescription bottles somewhere, needs to find them. Thanks both. :)

Another source for tubs is the inside plastic ring on a spray paint can lid. I've used them once before.

Thanks Brad, never been thinking that there would be good ones inside the spray can lid. Thanks, needs to try them. Haven't find any empty prescription bottles yet, so if those spray can parts don't fit, then needs to continue searching, from other bottles too.

Thanks, Chris for the pictures! That's really wild looking ride. That text on the rear window is nice. Should be great to have it in mine too, not too hard to make... ;) Quality is fine, and the delay doesn't matter. I don't know, how to scan anything, so great job with posting them here on the internet.

That is one cool looking car. I feel that the Drag Race builders really put out some high quality work here, the scratchbuilding done is very inspiring.

Yeah, those builds in this section are really nice. I'm not sure about this build's quality, 'cause my building skills are not so special. But I'm trying to make it look good. Thanks, Gabriel about your comment!

Just a little update. I started building the rear frame. After a bit of measuring and thinking I realized that I have to cut whole rear floor away. I haven't done that yet, before I cut it away, I want to have "complete" rear frame. Few reference pictures from Chevy Nova Handbook and Summit Racing's catalogue. Well, some brass tube and I rolled it from round to bit square. Then I built three parts from it, today I have to make some more, because time ran out. I soldered those three parts together, and today needs to build more of that rear frame, and then cut the rear floor away. Needs to build new floor from aluminium, new wheel wells coming from aluminium too. Here are some pictures.

Niko, very impressive work! I was thinking about picking up a falcon and doing something like this as well. You make me want to hunt one down even more.

For the Tubs, have you thought about just using an Aluminum POP/soda or Beer can? Much cheaper and something you are more likely to already have around the house! Then just back it with styrene sheet and you are good to go. If interested let me know and I can take closer pics and show you the ones I made for my 66 Nova.

Thanks, Bart, Randy, Chris and Brett! I've been using aluminium from beer cans, and it's really good stuff, and easy to use. But for the wheel wells, I must use bit thicker aluminium, otherwise they are too faint/weak..... But for the new floor, I'm going to use beer can aluminium. And it would be nice to see those pics, from those Nova parts. ;)

I had to make that tube square, because I didn't have other than round tube. Easy job, and the tube looks pretty good, when it's square.

Here is just a little update. I added few more tubes to that rear frame basis, which was built on the previous update. I did shorten it, and now it's just correct size. Well, now needs to cut the rear floor away, then it's possible to do some test fitting. Also needs to find racing rear axle for this build, then I can fit tires in, and see how it's going to look, and if I have to change something.

Thanks, Chris and Tyrone! Next needs to cut the rear floor away. I'm trying to keep it going, but now needs to finish '57 Chevy to the model car show. :)

No problem Niko, here are those pic's you requested.

Wheel Tub built from Aluminum Can with the styrene back to hold its shape. I find that it is plenty thick, not sure why you are saying it is weak. Maybe you are doing it differently.

Then here is a pic with them floating on the chassis, not mounted solid yet. Can't get much more scale than the thickness of the aluminum can. :)

Niko, I actually think for your project the square tubing looks much better! It just fits the Pro Street much better and seems to be what I see more of with this type of build up than the round tubing.

Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks for the pictures! Now I got it, that styrene back makes it much stronger, I meant that if that back is made from can aluminium, then it should be bit weak maybe. But I haven't tried yet, so maybe it should be great like that also. But with styrene back, no problem, that's the way, I'll be building it. Thanks. and yes, I like that square tubing too, it's way better. ;)

Just bought some goodies for this project from local Model Car show or contest. Some hood pins, photoetch parts of course and resin Holley Dominators. Hope I can use those hood pins, I've never tried that before.
