For those of you following my LA Dart work in progress and for those of you who aren't (but who wouldn't be?).

Thought I'd post an old build so you can see what insanity I'm capable of. It took an Honorable Mention at Wonderfest a couple years back. That's the equivalent of a First or Second at an IPMS National event.

Body is PL 60's Batmobile with American Muscle tires, engine and exhaust. THE BAT is a reworked Ed Roth monster. Don't remember if it's Mother's Worry or Mr. Gasser. After losing the hair, I gave him ears, Bat-cuffs on the wrists and made him a cute little utility belt. Cape is satin with a chain and Bat-clasp.

Enjoy (if you can stop laffing long enuff).BatzandDragz005.jpgBatzandDragz004.jpgBatzandDragz003.jpgBatzandDragz002.jpg

Don't take this the wrong way, but I have to disagree with that comment. Those of us who know the caliber of First place winning models at IPMS National contests know better, and those who don't probably don't care. Maybe you should take it to the IPMS Nats (or even a Regional) and see what it actually earns... Nice job...

Scale-Master, I respect your right to disagree, but, I have to disagree with your disagreement. I'm speaking from experience at both venues. It seems like you may only be referencing your experience with IPMS. Have you competed at Wonderfest? It is primarily Sci-Fi / Anime / Horror, but they have the strictest judging criteria in the hobby. They judge each model on it's own merit, regardless of which category it's placed in. There can be 10 models in 1 category and (theoretically) they could all get Gold or none could even place.

At any rate, it's all speculative because I've had award winners from one show not even place at another. It's all up to the judges. I'm just here to show my stuff, have a good time with my fellow modelers and stay out of controversial subject matter. If you have been there, I hope you placed well and had a great time. If you haven't, you might wanna give it a shot. :)

I think you misunderstood what he meant. At wonderfest the competition is so tight that getting noticed at all is tough. Having Judged many IPMS shows I can tell you that in most IPMS shows there are few model in contention for the top prize, but at wonderfest, there are literally dozens that could be good enough. I don't think he is saying that any model that earns an honerable mention at wonderfest would automaticly will a First place in IPMS, but is saying that just getting noticed at wonderfest is an accomplishent worthy of comparison.

Hi Batzilla,

I appreciate the different point of view, and civil discussion, thanks for expressing it.

But I am a little confused. You said “It took an Honorable Mention at Wonderfest a couple years back. That's the equivalent of a First or Second at an IPMS National event.” (Darin B, please note that last sentence.)

I see you posted a photo of an IPMS award. Congratulations. But it is not a National award; it appears to be maybe a Regional. (The 1991 IPMS National Convention was in St. Louis.)

I can show you what I earned 1st places there with (in 1991) if you’d like to compare “same time frame workmanship” to illustrate the reality side of your statement.

For what it’s worth a National award will include the notation that it is such, like this one I happen to have handy…

I see you also posted a 2007 Wonderfest award, I assume it is for this entry.

I’ll be glad to show you what actually earned 1st place awards in the 2007 IPMS Nationals too, if you would like for me to better illustrate my point. You know, if you had entered in the 2007 Nationals...

IPMS Regional contests, while they may have eventual IPMS National contest winners entered in them sometimes, are not usually as tough to earn an award in the same place as the actual National contest.

My point is as nice of a model as you entered in Wonderfest, to state that since it garnered an Honorable Mention it is automatically equivalent to a 1st or 2nd at an IPMS National (not Regional) contest is simply not factual.

Did you ever enter in an IPMS National Contest? If so how did the model do?

That result would provide a better meaning of how it would have placed at an IPMS National contest.

I’ll be happy to back up my point of view with historical facts. Thanks.

Well, I guess I've gone and done it. I was making a simple statement to express my pride in my work. It appears I've only stirred up a nest of hornets. Sorry to have offended any IPMS sensibilities. I'm aware of the difference between a regional award and a national one. So, I haven't been to a national and you haven't been to Wonderfest.

I'll take the hit for being controversial and let it go at that. I'll consider the matter closed with a smile and a handshake, okay? I'm going back to work on my LA Dart.

Darin, you said it better than I did. I was trying not to blow my own horn, so I used a generalization instead of a specific example. When ya read it over, it could be taken that way. Luis, nice new thumby type emote. lol Barrett, that's IT !! All I could remember was I salvaged it from a vendor in a plastic baggie.
