Dr. Cranky Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 I was doing a little bit of cleaning up recently, and I found an issue of CAR MODELER (March 1996, Volume 6, Number 6) which features work by Juha Airio's (1973 Pointiac Grand Am) and also a scratchbuilding model that Pat Covert collaborated on with Ken Hamilton, a "Logger's Mule Boom Rig." This issue in particular really launched Doctor Cranky into a life of rust, gunk, and junk! If you have it, check it out, and if you don't I am sure you can find old issues of Car Modeler on the internet. What's your treasure?
Eshaver Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Cranky , Car Modeler was the "Gold Standard" in which ALL Model publications SHOULD be , including ............. Ed Shaver
diymirage Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 i have a model of a 1990 pontiac lemans i will one day turn into the second car i ever owned, a heavily modifed 1990 opel E kadett
george 53 Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Virge, I went out an bought an EXTRA issue of that, just to keep in the box with the same JoHan Olds that Juha used! One of these days.........
Tony T Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 (edited) I remember that issue...have it, too!! I've got a bunch of treasures in the vault...from car mags for reference to kits bought and yet to be built, mostly from the mid 80s to mid 90s...started on a couple recently - Whistler Trans-Am Mustang race car (done) and 85 SVO Mustang (nearly done). I've got to do some cleaning up and sorting come the fall, so if I find some delights, I'll share them photographically!! Edited August 13, 2011 by Tony T
Gray Smith Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 (edited) the premiere issue of Model Cars Magazine... amt Alaskan Hauler, um.. lots of issues of car modeller, old issues of scale auto...cool old hotwheels... Edited August 15, 2011 by Gray Smith
MrObsessive Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Virgil, I have that issue also, and I did the same as George! I have all the pieces to do that car, except that elusive dash which isn't cast by anyone I know of. One of these days...................... As far as other treasures, I have a mostly unbuilt Renwal chassis kit..............you know the generic chassis which goes together in a million pieces in 1/8 scale? I'd like to tackle that someday, but I'd also like to have the working visible V8 that went with that. Then there's the matter of finding room to display it!
Junkman Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 I don't have a vault. It's more like a Gringotts for model kits. The one kit I'd save if there was a deluge?
MrObsessive Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Yeah, I figured it came out of the old Grand Prix kit. IIRC, Juha mentions in the article that's where he got his. That's an EXPEN$IVE kit, and I don't want to rob a rare kit just for the dash. Too bad Modelhaus doesn't cast just the dash from this one 'cuz I'd sure snag it.
george 53 Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Bill, I felt the same way. i have that Grand Prix kit but couldn't bring myself to steal the dash. But I managed to find one(a dash) at a toyshow and I have it now if you want/think maybe you could mod it, have it casted and i'd take a copy. You can have the master. Just let me know,Daddy-O!
Chuck Most Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Nothing epically rare, but I do have my points of pride!
Dr. Cranky Posted August 15, 2011 Author Posted August 15, 2011 Wow, some beauties in this thread already!
Darren B Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 (edited) mine is the morgan three wheeler that i just found at a club meeting for $2.00!!! It is just a really wierd vehicle and this kit is 1/16th and a really detailed kit of the morgan. Edited August 15, 2011 by Darren B
Crazy Ed Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I tend to lean towards the origional CanAm and roadracers of that era Crazy Ed
prostockmania Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Here's some of my treasures, or at least I think so. Someday I'll get around to building them. 71 firebird not in orginal box, everything else is most of the mustangs sealed, blue 68 chevelle is a stock build, white 68 was a decaled unpainted drag build, 69 chevelle hood, but both are original 68's.
