Ditto.. :D

Some stuff gets into the wrong categories, misspelled, $0.99 start with no reserve...

When I'm bored sometimes, I'll cruise all over ebay looking for stuff like that and just drop a really low bid. Most of the time, you lose out, but sometimes, it can result in a GREAT buy.

I won a really clean, COMPLETE, running 2.3l Ranger engine on there with under 40k miles (truck was totaled) for 99 cents a few years back. It was 30 miles from my house. I drove down with my friend's f250, handed the guy a buck and he loaded it right up in the bed with his forklift. The thing was on a pallet, all wrapped up, strapped down and everything! I tore it all apart and sold the accessories, head, crank, rods and other stuff and made a couple hundred. The block from it is in my '87 2.3 turbo Mustang right now and almost ready for a good beating! :)

This topic pops up about every two or three weeks and it practically brings the same responses.

Yes, some sellers on eBay charge a lot. Yes, some people buy from them.

The point of selling on eBay is usually to make money. If you can buy a kit and get $100 for a $10 kit, why would you sell it for $10?

I don't spend more money than I want to on kits on eBay, so I could care less how much somebody else is selling/buying models.

I enjoy browsing as I see some kits I didn't know existed or have forgotten about - and I usually don't buy them.

i buy a lot of my kits from ebay. its not ebay itself, it's the sellers that give others a bad experiance.

i mainly buy imports and majority of them are toyota kits that have been discontinued, are a steal for their asking/bid price, the fact that its hard to find and my LHS doesnt stock them or what ever they do stock cost more that getting them on ebay.

i would by them on emodels, but they dont have what i want. if there was something there, i would buy it.

i got this one for 37 bucks, theres another one for "buy it now" at 100 bucks+shipping

i got this one for 27 bucks shipped, usually found for 40-55+shipping

and this one was a bit more, 55 shipped, but its hard to find and 1/20 scale. so makes it a bit cooler. theres another one, but i think its at about 70 or 80 bucks+shipping.

these are the most recent ones. i have many that i have bought that were easily priced 40-60% cheaper. so its not all too bad if you look around a bit.

My main beef is some sellers (mainly from Thailand it seems, but the USA is also in there) that are gouging on the cost of postage. I recently had an experience with a fellow from the 'fore mentioned Asian country who wouldn't offer a discount on the individual postage cost for 4 kits sent as 1 package. I ended up paying $54 postage & the 'Dealer' spent only $16 to post the package to me, pocketing the rest as a 'Bonus'. After enquiring to him about the discrepancy in the postage cost, he replied 'That's what all the sellers charge. Have a nice day'. Now I have NEVER left anyone negative feedback before, but I made sure that I finished my feedback comment (after the bright red negative symbol) with a "Now have a nice day yourself ".... As I said, the good 'ole USA is no stranger to a similar practice as well. Dealers INSISTING on priority mail prices ('cause I'm in Oz) @ 50% more than usual, then sending it first class & pocketing 'the bonus'

So what some of you are saying is that you don't use ebay because there are too many rippoff auctions. Come on, just don't bid on them. If you didn't like the music on a radio station would you not listen to the radio anymore? or change the station? I've gotten a load of great deals on ebay. I don't bid on the ones that I think are a rippoff. Not just model cars either. I buy antique motorcycle and car parts from ebay at a fraction of what I would pay for them elsewhere. There's a lot of good deals to be had there. And yes I am a seller as well. But I buy much more than I sell. After ebay fees and paypal fees there is a huge chunk taken out of your profit, especially on higher priced items, which is mostly what I deal with, but you reach an enourmous amount of people. Another good one is craigslist. If you go to allofcraigs.com your item search will cover the whole country not just one city. That's how I bought my 1/8 revell big deuce for $25 sealed in the box ($10 shipping). Just my 2 cents. Ken

I don't think most here don't use e-bay just are ranting a little and making light of some of the overboard prices and shipping charges some are wanting for kits like they had a piece of gold. I personally know how much I am willing to spend on a particular kit and if someone else wins so be it. Also there are a lot of good deals out there you just need to search and sometime items are mislabeled and you can score big.
