High octane Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Hey! near west suburbs of Chicago is where I'm at. Along with Lou Malnati's Pizza, one of my favs is Gino's East in the city!!! And if Your ever in this area you've got to go to Palmer Place in La Grange Ill, great burgers,sandwiches,O-rings, and potato salad, and plenty of beers on tap,and in bottles, the best!!!! Don't forget Route 66 Raceway, my son and I go for the NMCA/NMRA Superbowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, always a Great time. I used to do Gino's East back in the late 60's, what a great place.
Harry P. Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Don't hang up your snow shovel just yet Harry. I think as far as snow goes, it'll be iffy for another three or for weeks. Come on spring! Spring? It was 12 degrees two nights ago. Hey Al Gore... where's that global warming you keep selling?
High octane Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Patience Harry, it will be here soon. Lots of weather forecasters mention the temps we had at this time last year but that was just a "fluke" and nothing more. I've lived here all my life and this is normal weather. I've even seen snow on Easter.
madhorseman Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 We'll most likely go from the 20's right into the hot humid weather,HaHaHa. At least when it's cold You can put on more layers, but when it gets that hot You can only take off so much!!
High octane Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 You don't know what cold is unless you've worked outside, all day long, all winter long, and for many winters.
madhorseman Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 (edited) Nick, my work has me outside in both the extreme cold and heat. I can speak from 30 plus years experience, so I'm with You there. Edited March 25, 2013 by madhorseman
High octane Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Can it be? The temps here are getting warmer, and I'm gonna hafta get off my butt and start doing outdoor chores? I might even hafta run out the gas out of the snow-thrower and put it away. I like IT!
High octane Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Went to a car show in Joliet yesterday at the Hooters in the Joliet Mall and the show was packed. All the parking spaces were filled and the show spilled out into the Sears lot as well. Lots of beautiful cars, Hooter girlz, rock 'n roll music, good food, and just plain fun. I did take some pics with my "film" camera that I sometimes use for reference or motivation. I also did two cruise nights last week, I'm missing one tonight, and I'll make one on Saturday in Fox Lake. I just LOVE the summer months! Yes, I'm still buildin' some also.
High octane Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Those living in northern Illinois, check out the Attack of the Plastic thread above in the Contest & Shows section. It should be a great time, and it's coming up in mid July.
High octane Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Like Mopars? Mopars in the Park Show this Sunday (June 23rd) in Fox Lake, 1/4 mile north of the Ingleside Dog 'N Suds.

High octane Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Welcome Tom as I had worked in Oak Lawn back in the mid-60's doing the construction work on the new schools at 106th & Cicero and also 106th & Central Aves. I believe. This is a good place to be.
cobraman Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I lived in Oak Lawn in the 60's. Went to Oak Lawn Community High on 95 th. I believe it was. Lived off of 87 th. and Natoma. Used to work at the Texaco gas station at the corner of 87 th. and Oak Park. Spent many a night the Starlite drive in movie theater and than afterwards either "Pup and Pop" across on Harlem or down to 79 th. to the White Castle once it was built. Good times.
High octane Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 How 'bout Dukes Drive in on Harlem and 78th (?)?
High octane Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 The Meltdown Drags were held this weekend at Byron Dragway and they were AWESOME to say the least. The cars on the drag strip were '66 and earlier and the cars in the show were '72 and earlier. This was a great nostalgia event and next year I plan on going on Sat. instead of Sun. as it is the better of the two days. I went today (Sunday) and was NOT disappointed at all. I shot up two rolls of film quickly and wished that I would have brought my new digital camera with me instead. Now I'm "jacked up" and want to start on even more model kits. LOL! You could say that I'm motivated.

High octane Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Yes I know and I haven't been to that show in a few years. Just went to an all Mopar show last month.
ChrisBcritter Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) Born in Evanston, raised in Glenview and Northbrook, then three decades in Southern California, now back in Northbrook. My main hobby store was Klipper's (which I found out recently was originally a Crosley dealership, so they went from selling little tiny cars to selling little tiny cars). I also went to Hobbymodels in Evanston (back around '73 they dug up a complete 1953 AMT 3-car kit which I bought for $15.00) and Bargain Town in Niles. Just east of there was the Topps discount department store - nothing special except back in 1966, in the toy department, there was a big tray table full of unboxed promotional models from which I picked out a white '65 Falcon convertible; probably paid a buck for it, if that... then when I was older I started going to the Old Town Escorts model swap meets after seeing the Chicago Tribune magazine article that featured Ron Merkel's brown '61 Ford wagon on the cover. I have some old Instamatic shots of the OTE and NeuChamps model displays from the 1970's I'll be posting soon in the main section. Edited July 24, 2013 by ChrisBcritter

I'm a former long time member of The Old Town Escorts and a friend of mine and ran the model contest at the Hillside Holiday Inn Swap Meets for Tom Lima Jr. I believe the Escorts broke up in '86 if I'm not mistaken and I should look it up as I have a lot of paper work from my "Escort" days.
High octane Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 A HUGE opportunity for reference photos for building models is tomorrow ( July 28th) at the Turning Back Time Car & Bike Show in Sycamore , Illinois as there will be 600+ cars and bikes. Bring plenty of film or memory stick with you.
John Truby Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I live about a mile from the Illinois / Indiana border, just north of Hegewisch. John Truby
High octane Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I live about a mile from the Illinois / Indiana border, just north of Hegewisch. John Truby Back in the 80's I drove to Hegewisch to buy a furnace for my house. That was so far south, that I thought that I would need a passport.
High octane Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 A nice car show next Sunday on the 25th in downtown Grayslake, Illinois. I was at that show in '09 and lookin' forward to it next weekend. Of course, bring your camera or iPhone to take reference photos for future builds you might want to do.
High octane Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 What's the date for the September swap meet at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, does anybody know? Thanks.
slantasaurus Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) I think the DuPage swap is Oct 20. I'm planning a trip back to Chicago and was looking to see what was coming up. I think the Tinley swap is Dec 2. Edited August 21, 2013 by slantasaurus
