MarkJ Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) Here is the kit. The price tag is a little misleading. I actually paid $8.99 for the kit with a 40% off coupon printed out from Hobby Lobby's web site. Edited November 16, 2011 by MarkJ
MarkJ Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 Tried superclean with not very good results
MarkJ Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 (edited) Tried 95% denatured alchohol and got much better results. Ready for sanding and putty and styrene modifications to add a front and rear spoiler and change the nose a little. I also have to change the quarter glasses. Edited November 16, 2011 by MarkJ
MarkJ Posted November 24, 2011 Author Posted November 24, 2011 Added the Squadron white putty where needed for now. Added the lower strip, leaving just the edge of the old splitter showing. Will have to wait till Thanksgiving to proceed.
bbowser Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Nice job so far Mark. Please post more pics as you go. I'm going to attempt a Tony Stewart chevy in the near future and was wondering how to modify the nose.
MarkJ Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 Did some more sanding but still not quite right. Added some more putty . Hopefully just one more sanding and I can move on to finish the rear spoiler.

Tony's Chevy will be easier because I believe the kit nose decals will also work for the 2011 nose.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Excellent, you are clearly saving and restoring this one, and it's well on its way. Keep it going.
MarkJ Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 I needed to make the splitter lip to add to the bottom of the nose. I just used the nose as a template.
MarkJ Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 The nose is ready for some two color priming to get rid of scratches, dips and pin holes. I made some diamond shaped pieces of styrene to splt but not break for the spoiler braces. After installing I added some putty to make them more uniform. It looks like the braces are not symetrical side to side and the reason being is that the real cars braces are not symetrical side to side.
W-409 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Looking good. Interesting subject, new Nascars are something really rarely seen in this scale. Bodywork looks good too. I'll be watching, but where are you going to get decals for it?
MarkJ Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 You can see the gap on the right side between braces is greater than on the left side.

Niko, I will use some of the contengencie decals that come in the kit but the rest I will have to create on my computer and print out on testors paper. I did a test decal to see how it would look and it turned out pretty good. Edited December 3, 2011 by MarkJ
martinfan5 Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) Mark- I looking forward to seeing how this turns out , I have been holding out on getting the AMT COT kits, I have been thinking about trying to do some Nwide COT using the AMT COT . I saw this build on the NASCAR forurm. The dodge nose is a little tricky to do, I know I had problems getting to look right, remember the headlight area is not as sloped back like on the chevy, and the grill is more square ish, and the top part of grill is sloped back. I hope that makes sense. Edited December 3, 2011 by martinfan5
MarkJ Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 Here are some more rear spoiler wips Need to do some more sanding.
MarkJ Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 Added putty to the quarter glasses and installed the quarter panel extensions.
MarkJ Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Just need to putty the quarter extensions and enlarge the fuel intake hole and add a fuel filler. After that I should be able to prime the body
MarkJ Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 Fabbed and installed beginnings of fuel filler. drilled and then cut out exhaust.
Lanny Haas Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 this is interesting....is there plans to open the hood?
MarkJ Posted December 13, 2011 Author Posted December 13, 2011 (edited) this is interesting....is there plans to open the hood? Lanny, I could see where it could be done but I do not know where to find a 1/25 scale engine. If you used an engine from a 2007 1/24 scale Revell kit it would not look right. It would be way too big. AMT could have sold a lot more of these kits if they had just made them 1/24 scale. It would not have been that much more plastic in each kit to have done it. Pretty bad decision on their part. Edited December 13, 2011 by MarkJ
Bad Brad #2 Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 I really like watching this build up, might have to try one myself. As far as an engine goes, the Revell Dodge engine is little more than a Chevy with valve covers anyway.
