Greg Myers Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 After a thought on the Gasser book I was thinking , my reference library rivals my kit collection, and again as much if you count the airplane books.
High octane Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Yes, my referenc library contains about four dozen books and LOTS of magazines and I'm glad I have this at my fingertips.
highway Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I'm with Steve, everything is at my fingertips and just a mouse click away. I even save pics of things people ask about on the various forum that have not been able to figure out they can just as easily Google it or just too lazy too do the searching themselves. That way I have pics if I do ever have a project similar, and right now I have a folder on all my hard drives (main computer and laptop plus the external drives for each) just for model research pics. I do also have the old timey print reference too, but mostly all of that is Scale Auto, Finescale, and MCM, with the few oddball Tamiya and old Car Modelers thrown in, and a few books on specific vehicles.
Junkman Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 After a thought on the Gasser book I was thinking , my reference library rivals my kit collection, and again as much if you count the airplane books. I wanted to mentin this when you were asking about the Gasser book. I have a book called "Supercharged Gas Coupes" by Don Montgomery. I think that book may interest you.
Greg Myers Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Have you seen his other books ? There are about 7 in the series.
Darbo Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I have a 320 gig hard disk with all my pics i have found along the way and also i find that the motor companies sales brochures are great if i build a factory stock type build.
Aaronw Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 As good as the internet is, I find there is still a lot only available in a book. At a quick count have around 100 books on trucks and emergency vehicles, plus another 30 or 40 other (aircraft, military vehicles etc).

Dr. Cranky Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I like to collect books and magazines, so it's extensive, except for the one magazine I've dropped my subscription to . . . I have them all, including TAMIYA. Lots of books too on varied subject matter . . .
Jon Cole Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) Hundreds of magazines.... which I am in the process of throwing out. My new reference source.. the internet. I will keep a few mag sets. For now my model magazines are save. So are the Vintage Motorsport. Oh.... it's a storage space issue. Or the lack of. Edited November 17, 2011 by Jon Cole
Austin T Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I have a collection of HOT ROD sitting on my shelf. Some great cars in there. Also a bunch of local mags about roding,my favorite is called "Greese Monkey"
Bowtienutz Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 way to many magazines and books. I started taking pics of covers that kinda jogs my memory where to look for my drag racing reference. here's my Super Stock and Drag illustrated collection.http://public.fotki.com/VincePutt/magazine-cover-back/ssdi/
bbowser Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I've got a dozen or so books on NASCAR, lots of vintage photos. That and a few years worth of 'Rod & Custom' and 'Muscle Car Review'.
Swifster Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I have a lot of reference material, but mine is more on a professional level. I have Chilton books going back to the teens and collision guides back to the 1950's. The glossy stuff is limited to items of interest such as Trans Am, old car dealerships, old gas stations, Ford GT40's, etc.
Crazy Ed Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) I do like the quick and prolonged reference provided by printed books. My interest runs towards late 50's - mid 70's roadracing. Lyle Willits Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Over 100 hard cover books and well over 2500 magazines dating back as far as 1951.
Junkman Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I also have every single issue of "Collectible Automobile" magazine and "Automobilia" magazine from France.
Evil Appetite Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I have tons of the huge Chilton hardcover manuals, Haynes, all of the books Donn recommends and more, about 50 various Muscle car hard covers,60+ gigs of ref pics and ebooks and manuals, as well as a few hundred magazines. I also have access to my uncles collection of Car Craft, Hot Rod and every other mag that has come out since he started repairing and building cars in 65. This is a monster of a collection!
Greg Myers Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 I'm aware of them, but don't have any others. I'd be interested in his book on Fuel Altereds and I may get it sometime. It's as good as the Gasser book. His next book on Diggers and Funnycars too.

sjordan2 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I have over 8 GB of downloaded and organized digital files for about 2 dozen cars (1.7 GB on the Mercedes 300 SL alone), plus books, magazines and videos similar to Christian's bookshelves. I've found it important to download the files because Web pages are constantly changing or being eliminated, and you can't always go back to them or find them at your fingertips.
Junkman Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 It's as good as the Gasser book. His next book on Diggers and Funnycars too. OK, I'll put them on my wish-list for Santa.
Qwit Pushin Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 My 'library' consists of complete collections of Rodder's Journal, Collectible Automobile and a variety of hard and soft cover books relating to racing, customs and the 'Color History' series. That said, I think the reference material I rely on most are the digital images I take at car shows, museums and racing events. I know exactly what I need to see when constructing the model, so get detail shots of the areas of cars that are most relevant to my upcoming builds.
