Scalper Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Hello My wife is taking me to the hobby shop on Sunday for my B-day. I was wondering how manu cab over kenworth 1/24 or 1//25 scale models are out on the market. and wich one is the best? I have been wanting to build one for years. Thanks .
Jim B Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 The only Kenworth K100 that is currently available at hobby shops is the AMT Kenworth K123. I haven't built it yet (I have three), but I'm sure it's your typical AMT kit. The information that I have on the kit is that it's about a 1970-71, has a Cummins NTA-370, and a spring suspension (hence the K123). If you go eBay you can find the AMT Kenworth K100 Aerodyne & the Revell of Germany K100 Aerodyne kits. The AMT kit is about a 1976-79 with a Detroit Diesel 8V71TA & a Alison Automatic transmassion, and the Kenworth 8-bag suspension. The Revell kit is about a 1980-81 and it has a Cummins NTTC-475 (I think). Not sure on the suspension on this kit as I have never built it. All of the kits I've mentioned are 1/25.
clayton Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 .Revell K 100 Aerodyne. Revell 125 (I think) Flattop???? AMT K 100 Aerodyne AMT 125 Flattop???. The only one I know that is out now is the AMT KW flat top.The rest is on Ebay.
Scalper Posted November 17, 2011 Author Posted November 17, 2011 Thanks for the Feedback. Hopefully they have one at my hobby store. since I dont like evilbay.
ranma Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 If the hobby shop dont have it they may order one for you
Jim B Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Was the AMT Kenworth K100 ever offered with the torsion bar suspension? I cannot remember. That would make it a K125.
mackinac359 Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 The original was a K123 with torsion bar. The difference between a K123 and a K125 is the gross vehicle weight rating (for North American units) Tim
lapazleo Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 Either way the original AMT k 100 that Round 2 re released is a decent kit
BigBad Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 (edited) Hello My wife is taking me to the hobby shop on Sunday for my B-day. So her beauty is not only on the outside huh? Happy birthday man! By the way, I have built the revell K100 way back when the kit was in the "trucks of the world" series. That was one of the best kits I have put together. Nice quality overall, rare features for the time and even for today, steerable front axle, opening cab doors, real rubber tires, metal chains, vinyl hose... They should re-issue this kit in any form! I have not tried the AMT yet, but Tim Ahlborn built one some months (others did too..) back and it looks pretty nice. Edited November 18, 2011 by Z06Bob
disabled modeler Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I am hoping the KW cabover kits show up at our local hobby lobby so I can get me one of those...I built one as a kid.
mackinac359 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I stand corrected - K123 is a walking beam suspension and K125 is the KW torsion bar suspension. A K124 is a heavier capacity walking beam suspension. (source: ATHS) The original version of the kit would have been a K125 and the reissue is a K123. Tim

Tim P&P Resin Works has the Torsion Bar, Plaskit has the Walking Beam.
