diehard44 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 I have one of the Testors metal bodied kits that has a pre-painted body ('41 Chevy, black with flames.) I need it to be a different color so I'm trying to find out how to remove the paint, preferably in a manner that won't leave me with no skin on my hands or sterile. This is the only model of that particular car that I can find, so I figure I need help since I've never worked with painted metal before. Thanks in advance for any help you can pass on.
george 53 Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Ron Andrews overt RMR resins has a VERY nice chopped 41 Chevy coupe for 45 bucks. It's REAL nice and it uses the Revell 41 Pro street willys as a donor.
Art Anderson Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Aircraft grade paint stripper works, and works very quickly. Use protective rubber gloves, and a cheap paintbrush (hardware store type). That will take all the paint off your diecast in mere minutes. Art
Pete J. Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 If everything is metal(no plastic window frames or bumper or other parts) acetone with get just about anything of PDQ!
Longbox55 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Whatever you do, DO NOT PUT IT IN THE PURPLE POND! Those type cleaners will dissolve the metal, mainly the aluminum in the alloy.
RickRollerLT1 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 DOT-3 would be a good choice, but it may take about a week or 3 to get it like butter. Since this is metal, aircraft stripper or hardware store paint thinner would do the job pretty good. I'd go with the latter since it's far cheaper than the Aircraft stuff, and can be easily obtained.
outlaw035 Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 i did this one a few years ago just lightly sanded the diecast...primed it and shot over the primer
