I know in the past there were some concerns about the Polar Lights VW Bug. I'm debating pulling the one I have apart and making it a non Herbie. What were the concerns with the kit ?? I'm not a VW guy so to me it just looks like a Bug but if the issues are a simple enough fix I might try to fix them.

The drip rails and wipers are pretty thick (and the wipers are molded to the cowl) but other than that and what Jacen said, it's a pretty good kit.

Oh- and the body will fit over a Tamiya chassis and interior, if you screw up your Tamiya body and are in a pinch for a replacement. :D

Oh- heres the pic- as you can see, I got rid of the wipers and drip rails (you can do that when you don't build stock ;) ). Note the window trim is molded to the clear pieces and is very easy to foil- nice touch, especially for a snap kit.

I'm a fan of Herbie. Several of the movie cars ended up repainted and used for years as, well, just Beetles...I have the PL kit, but haven't built it yet...I don't recall what concerns were addressed previously. I don't care for the front bumper much, personally, that I recall from pictures...and the plate light. Maybe the sunroof cover was a bit thick, too? I'd have to find pics or dig out the kit.

Hope you share before and after pictures at least!

Not sure how legal those headlights are but really nice job on the engine detail! B)

Thanks! Lights probably aren't legal, but I know for a fact having no mufflers is!

I built it. The most notable is the blunt attachment clip on the side of the sunroof. Why they molded it like that... I don't know.

Second obvious is the oversized taillights. Plus I never could get the rear-view mirrors to fit, so I left them off.

And the decals.. they are stickers. Difficult to get the roundel on the hood to lay flat... wish I had just ordered aftermarket decals.

Anything else, I have forgetten.

Two of my friends are huge Herbie fans and have built correct replicas. I'm also restoring a '63 Bug currently. I built the Herbie model with my son and it's got quite a few inaccuracies but nothing major. It builds up nicely.

Here is a pic in front of my house with my buddies' cars and my project in the garage.

Greg, are you and or your buddies on the lovebugfans.com forum? I've been there for ages...I'm slowly (very slowly) working on a '67 replica.

Greg is right- and what inaccuracies it DOES have are easily fixed. It's actually pretty nicely detailed, even though it's a snap kit. Full engine detail, opening hood and trunk, and a decent interior. Not quite as nice as the Tamiya '66, but still pretty good all things considered.

I'd love to see the roof just molded open (perhaps with an option of closed or open sliding tops....), but after hearing what I heard about the kit, then actually buying the kit and seeing for myself, I was actually pretty happy with the kit overall.

A choice of waterslide or stick-on decals would be nice for future issues, as well. Why not? Seemed to work okay for the COT kits.

Yes, that's Kyle's car in the driveway and Dann's on the street. I was a member there but then I decided to go a different direction with my bug.
