topher5150 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 This is going to be my post Christmas build, but right now I'm just trying to get as much info as I can. So here's the deal I am going to take the nose and tail off of the AMT 68 G.T. 500 and put it on the 67 Mustang coupe (from motor city resin casters) and cut the roof off to make it a convertible, then I'm going to take the engine, transmission, and G.T. 350 stickers off of the AMT 67 G.T. 350 and put it on the convertible. Right now I'm in the planning stage, and any advice would be great
george 53 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Use the AMT Shelby an cut the roof off, take the trunk deck and roof from the 66 Mustang, fit it to the Shelby body, and save yourself the trouble of choppin up Motor City's GREAT body, and in the end, it's NO more work than what you were planning to do, and you STILL get to keep the MCRC Mustang.
MrObsessive Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 I second what George told you! You won't have to deal with the dissimilarities between resin and plastic, and it'll save you some extra gray hairs! Plus if you want an up-top to go with that convertible, you could always fashion the roof off the '66 for it.
topher5150 Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 I had been running that through my head too, seeing how i would need the front fenders for the cobra emblem too, i am sure glad that all of these are being bought with Christmas money
topher5150 Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 Next question: The 68 Shelby (body donar) that I bought was the original release from AMT in the early 90's, I was at the hobby store last night and saw a newer 68 Shelby from AMT (had the pic of the golden Shelby on it), which of the two is the better as far as detail goes or are they the same thing in a different box
Maindrian Pace Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Same kit in a different box. They have been virtually identical since the '70s "Classic" reissue. -MJS
Sport Suburban Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I agree with George 53 and MrObbsesive. Cutting the roof and deck almost to the spoiler is the way to go! Here is a pic of an Eleanor Mustang that I did just that with. Also in the backround is my resin 68 GT500KR. That one is a resin body from Mini Exotics.

MrObsessive Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Do you have a link to mini exotics I may be wrong, but I think Mini Exotics may be out of business. If someone in the know could confirm or deny that------that would be good. I thought that they went out of business a few years ago.
Sport Suburban Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Yeah, They are out of buisness. I bought that one above back in 2001, I think. I wish they were still around as they had some nice muscle cars. They also did a 69/70 Shelby convertible and a 68 Mustang California Special. I have both of those but the one I waited too long on was a 68 Cougar GTE.
george 53 Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Raoul, other than a few trim changes, Emblems, a Grille mod, and a unique scooped hood, the GTE was the same as a GT. If you could mod the hood with the scoops, and add the thin horizontal bar to the grille you'd be half way there.
Dirkpitt289 Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Do you know off hand if anyone else has those type body's? I would love to do the California Special
