Nick Winter Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Thought I'd start another ( I another because of the Curbside '70 Chevelle) simple one, give myself a break from the harder stuff I'm working on finishing. Just something to tinker on while this is drying or that is setting up. The kit I have chosen is Monogram's '32 Ford Roadster, this is a 2010 reissue molded in white that I picked up for the huge price of $11.76 with tax as a new release (had a coupon), I didn't like the small block chevy it had, and so it went back to the stash, in the end of october I picked up the early 90's release of the AMT '49 Merc for the high cost of $5 sealed at the Ajax 31 model show (had a great time looking at all the builds, hitting the vendors and hanging out with the guys in our club). This kit happens to have a beautiful IMHO Flathead with Offy heads and intake, aswell as Stromberg 97 carbs, and a "Beehive" Oil Filter, IMO a great Hot Rod engine. More Photo's to follow.
Dr. Cranky Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 It looks like the right materials for a wonderful build. Get it going.
Nick Winter Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 Still not sure on color, started working on the rolling stock today. kit tires with Revell '32 5 window tire decals, and a shot of dullcoat, still need to and treads. Kit wheels, still need to drill for valve stems. Gave the offy valve covers a touch of paint so I could see how they'd look Nick
Jantrix Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Great ideas and a great start. Knock my socks off Nick!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Those wheels and tires are going to look great on that build.
GTMust Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 I'm going to be watching Nick....... It's a great kit........ and I can't wait to see what you do with it. I know you'll do it proud! Tony
surfjunke Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Nice start on a nice older kit. Like the wheel choice. Those Offi heads are really neat.
Danno Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Engine may look undersized in the frame; engine - 1/25, car body/chassis - 1/24. May turn out alright ... you can just say it's a 60!
Nick Winter Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 Thanks Guys. Dick: the color I ended up buying for it today is a Honda color, Firehawk Black Pearl, it's sort of a black/blue, with a nice pearl to it. Dan: I had my doubts about the size difference but after I test fitted it, it's pretty darn close, and looks fine to me. Managed to do some engine work today. still need to paint the starter and the Rad hoses. Ended up painting the block red, it's not factory correct but looks good. Nick
Danno Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Hey, if it looks right, it is close enough. Not so much diff between 1/24 and 1/25, although it can occasionally make things look "wrong."

Monogram has a nice flathead with some period speed equipment that is in the proper scale in their '40 Ford Pick-up, & it is now on the market again.
Haubenschild Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 Is the honda colour in a rattle can? , or will it be airbrushed
Nick Winter Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 Monogram has a nice flathead with some period speed equipment that is in the proper scale in their '40 Ford Pick-up, & it is now on the market again. Don't see a point in buying another kit when I already have this flathead, difference isn't that much. Is the honda colour in a rattle can? , or will it be airbrushed Rattle can, should have no problems spray bombing it, going to try the Testors one coat lacquer wet look clear on this one. Nick
Nick Winter Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 Color test spray, How it looks in natural light: How it looks is sunny/bright light: Nick
Nick Winter Posted December 10, 2011 Author Posted December 10, 2011 (edited) little bit more, I've been busy at work, but still allow myself some play time. Changed my mind on the color scheme. Nick Edited December 10, 2011 by Nick Winter
jbwelda Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 looks good and i would buy that kit for the flathead! i like the green better than the blue too.

Danno Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Thanks guys/ Russ that is a Duplicolor paint, it dosen't have a tag on it so I can't tell you what color it is. Nick In post# 16 of this thread, you show a "test spray" that indicates the color is Duplicolor "Firehawk Black Pearl."
Dr. Cranky Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 That's looking good, and the red of the engine is going to really stand out.
Nick Winter Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 In post# 16 of this thread, you show a "test spray" that indicates the color is Duplicolor "Firehawk Black Pearl." Dan, as you can see I used a green, not the same Black Pearl as I intially chose. Nick Thanks Doc
