gasser59 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Stalled project, you say? well I have a few and I think that my Willys is close to 22 years on the shelf. After getting to making the roll bars, the door hinges wouldn't work no matter if I went traditional or suicide so it got put aside. I thought about just gluing the doors solid but there's just too much going on in the cockpit to not have the doors open. This build was before after market goodies were available so I used what I could find that looked good like colored foil for the anodized fittings, O rings from Bic lighters for the wheelie wheels, painted masking tape for the seat belts and floor mats, the firewall was made from printing plate as well as the seat belt hardware. It has a tilt steering wheel and functioning gas pedal. One day, it'll get done. I promise. Just need to figure out the door hinges. Maybe I'll just leave out the roll cage.
b_lever1 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 we al have projects like this DOA still we must just finish them do the willys

steve7119 Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I am glad to see that I am not alone with decades old projects. no photos right now because I can't locate any of them. Everything got packed away in '95 so i could build a new house and move. 14 years later I finnaly got around to building a workshop in the new house and unpacking the models and supplies. I know there was a 4X4 blazer mud racer that was stalled because I couldn't find or make the tires I needed and a '57 Nomad that I cut about 3/4 inch out of the front fenders to shorten it for a transport vehicle, but my ideas didn't come close to my skills at the time. I think I am gonna have to search through everything and find those projects again. I will post photos if I can find them
jaymcminn Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Lets see, stalled projects... Well, there's my '49 Ford coupe with the chopped top... Or the '51 Chevy with the top chop and extended rear fenders... But the prize for my longest-stalled build has to go to my '49 Mercury, a rebuild of a glue-bomb AMT kit started in 1998.
jaymcminn Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 And yes, they're all in bare plastic- generally by the time I get primer on 'em I'm fully committed to finishing the build.
exnyman Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 Good stuff there John! A DOHC, 12 cylinder HEMI Me likey! I've gotcha beat time-wise on this one...over 19 years! My MPC 1968 Impala convertible project, to replicate my 1:1 Bought the not-quite mint promo in 1992, tinkered with it a bit, then put away until '98 when Revell came out with the '65 droptop, which is giving up it's separate windshield frame and uptop. And my 1:1...my Dad bought new! Original paint, top, interior. 325/396, M20 4-speed, 12 bolt posi. 62K original no-winter miles. this car is like a brother to me, Dad ordered it a month after I was born I have the same stalled project! Mine is an original MPC annual though, not a promo, and I have had it since new. I was in 3rd grade at the time I got it and my sister tried to fit too many Barbie dolls in it once and broke the windshiled posts and frame. I kept it all these years and hoped I could fix it. I now have most of the parts to do so just as you do! And like you, I have a 1:1 as well! It was my first car, bought it in July of 75 and still own it all these years later. My Dad had one just like it brand new, only his was a Custom Coupe. Here is a shot of my car being loaded on a transpoerter a few months ago to make the trip from my former home in Ohio to my current home in Arizona.
Casey Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 (edited) I have one one which dates back to '96, so going on 15 years now. I had started it when the Revell AG 1/16 '52 VW Kafer kit was first released, and it's just about to be re-issued, so maybe that's a sign I should get to work on it again. I actually thought I lost the model over the course of two moves, as I could not find it anywhere, and I knew I hadn't thrown it out-- it wasn't that bad. To make a long story short, I found it inside a suitcase (shows how often we travel), and I have done nothing to it since. In fact, I can't even find the pictures I took of it, so I'll have to take some new ones. Now that this project has a companion 1/16 Funny Car build, it may see the workbench soon. I took some pics of the VW Beetle Funny Car body today: It needs a ton of block sanding, and I remember what I was really not looking forward to doing- adding the beltline groove for the chrome trim pieces which got buried when the body was extended. This one's gonna be dusty. Edited December 8, 2011 by Casey
