mnwildpunk Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Ok I thought chrysler did an ok job with the challenger but all I can say is boo and hiss to the new chrysler/fiat dart. The car was a legend for multiple reasons from the slant 6 all the way to gran spalding dodge's Hemi darts. The car I saw today in no way can fill the shoes of the darts of past. I wasn't happy with what they did to the charger why did this surprise me? Idk but it did.

It was never meant to be what the orginal Dart was, its in name only, dont let it bother you that much, just like the Charger was never meant to fill the shoes, or be like the ones from the 67-74, its just a name. mnwildpunk Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Well don't call it a dart don't call them something that had such a great heritage. If it's not ment to fill the shoes don't use the name that is my opinon

Rob Hall Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 It's neat they are using the Dart name rather than making up a new name...it fills the same niche the Dart did in the '60s-70s--economical compact 4dr sedan (which most Darts were). Imagine if the Focus was named the Falcon or the Cruze was named the Nova instead.

Yes there are some very well built and impressive darts out there, as well as Vegas and monzas, but I would hardly say those have a great heritage. This car is going to change the bad direction Chrysler has been headed for the last seven years, it's very exciting !!!
mnwildpunk Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Sorry I don't see it that way my opinion. Ya grew grew up old chrysler one of my first cars was a 72 dart super 6 it is still in the family at over 300K I'm still old school MOPAR I own a 63 new yorker, 68 bee & 51 dodge I understand what you guys are saying this could be a great car I'm not denying that. I just wish they would leave the classic names with the classics I'm sure if chevy came out with a wagon and named it a nomad not to many folks would take kindly to it. Just like I'm not taking kindly to this. That's my two cents my opinion people you can't change it I'm not going to argue it. I do hope this is a great car coming out I hope it is one model in a line of soon to be great cars I cross my fingers I just don't think it should be called a dart
sak Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 That's looking awfull, and engine needs 4 cylinders more! Personally, I don't like it at all, why it's Dodge Dart, it doesn't look like Dart AT ALL. I understand Camaro or Challenger, and Mustang, because they look- even a bit of those original car models, but not this one. Don't take this too hard-I just hate new cars, exept Camaro, Challenger and Mustang. What exactly does anybody need 8 cylinders for. A V6 challenger makes more power than a vintage small block powered challenger and more reliable and more fuel efficient. You are now in the new milenium man. But as for the dart. Ugly but good on gas. I would rather have the turbo regal though.
Joe Handley Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 (edited) To me, the Dart name seems more appropriate on this car than those that proceded it, and I still don't know why people complain about it being an economy car, they all have since the mid 60's, just modern economy cars are small, fwd sedans with 4 cylinder motors. Chances are this one is going to be quicker and will corner far better than any average Dart of years past. Times have changed anyway when it comes to power vs displacement anyway, any of the cars equipped with the engine in the Challenger Jeff mentioned, my 200 has a toned down version of that motor and magazines have gotten quarter mile times that would rival Iroc Z's and 5.0 Mustangs, as well.as some of the milder musclecars from the 60's and 70's, yet it can be driven daily, get decent mileage while being able to drink everything from plain old 87 octane to E-85 (the mileage isn't as good on E-85, but the performance is better ), handle well, and not stand out in a speed trap! Swifster Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I had more of a problem with the Charger. It could have been named Magnum. Chargers, regardless of horsepower, should not be 4-doors. Darts were always economy cars. This one fits a lot better.
mademan Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 looks like everything else on the road... I guess if you like econo-box run of the mill stuff then its great. I wouldnt be gaught dead in one.
dimebolt Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I think it would've been cool if they did the retro thing like on the Chally, Camaro, and Mustang. I agree that they shouldn't have called it a Dart. Just like they shouldn't have made the Charger a 4 dr. There NEVER was a 4 dr Charger. Just think they should have either designed them different if they were going to use those names, or not used those names. You don't see a 4 dr Vette, Mustang, or Camaro. It just wouldn't be right. Just my opinion. Corey

They're pretty distinctive when compared to other cars in their class, especially from the back, those tail lights will look pretty cool at night

I guess if you buy a vehicle based solely on mileage, then its great. Edited August 11, 2012 by mademan

It in no way can compare to the new " real " charger. 425 hp, even with those heavy extra doors, will walk all over most of the two door cars from most generations. I don't understand why it has such a bad reputation for being so young. Edited August 11, 2012 by moparmagiclives

Because it has a four doors, it was built in the 2000's, it looks like every other car on the road, should I go on , I like the new Charger, but I like the 2012 resigned Charger a lot better , it just looks cool In all honesty though , I would take a 1969 Charger over the up to 2011 model , as the for the Dart, well I wouldnt take either, but if I had to chose, I would take the new on over the old one, I like having A/C Edited August 11, 2012 by martinfan5
