Mr. Moparman Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 (edited) Ok, I just couldn't stand it anymore! I haven't even got the kit yet, but it's on it's way, should have it tommorow. I found my inspiration on E-bay for $169,900! It has a Hemi (From parts box), my steel wheels, trunk opened, AMT General Lee tires, Jack, Spare, and a MCG Photo-etch set. ( To arrive soon, soon.) Enjoy! Edited December 11, 2011 by Mr. Moparman

High octane Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Sweeeeeet car, $169,900 I don't think so!
Mr. Moparman Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 Here is all what i've scrounged up for it so far. The Hemi took a bath in the Purple Pond. A mock up with carbs and fuel line. All this will be fired by a M.A.D Pre-wired distributer with a Parts by Parks coil. The valve covers have been stripped, painted, detailed, and booted. Enjoy!
Haubenschild Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Hahha! , i always look at this car when i go on their site , its a good reference . I cant wait see the finished product!
diymirage Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 sad to think i owe more then that in student loans i almost think id rather have the charger
Guest Sickfish Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Good for you mate! Love this car... It's been on eBay/ for sale, for quite some time... I downloaded all the pics nearly 2yrs ago! Awesome Charger! :-) Good luck! Cheers Cliffo!
george 53 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Beautiful car! If you ever drove a 4 spd Charger, you'd see how well the shifter handle fits in your hand. I had a Hurst T-Handle on mine.Still have the original stock shifter ball too! My FAVORITE year of Charger.
Mr. Moparman Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 (edited) Thank you everbody! I can see this particular car isnt really new to the forum! I got the kit today from george53 and have made progress! I cut open the trunk using the backside of my knife. This was my very first time doing this, and I think it came out good. I fabed the hinges from brass tube and wire. OPEN CLOSED The engine got a fresh coat of paint today! I added the carbs, distributer, oil filter, and valve covers to the engine. I also wired the engine. Here is a mockup of how things will go in the trunk. I made the mat, as other models I have seen this is overlooked on. I felt it was a detail that could make my model "stand out" from the rest. Until next time... Edited December 12, 2011 by Mr. Moparman
Dr. Cranky Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 You are on a roll. I love the color of the original, hope you will match it. Maybe you can sell the model for 16,569 dollars!

Harry P. Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Nice idea to open the trunk. I hope you don't mind a suggestion, though. It's too late on this one, but if you build another Charger in the future, you need to make those trunk hinge "loops" a lot smaller.

Harry, I don't think it's too late and I'll see what I can do, they looked a bit big to me to after I put' em on. And ya see, i didn't qoute the pic.
Evil Appetite Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Great start. great car! Could you maybe take a better shot of the open trunk? I like the looks of what you've done. I'd like to try my hand at replicating that for a build I have planned.
Mr. Moparman Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 Not much in the way of updates because I can't find a suitble brown paint in my paint stash. Luckily enough, I'm going to the LHS tommorow! I did manage to finish sanding the vinyl roof off the body because the rear car did not have a vinyl roof. I also got a e-mail Tuesday night from Scale Dreams saying my MCG Detail set along with some more goodies had shipped. I should get those Saturday. Anywho, enough chatter and on to pictures! I totally reworked my trunk hinges. I finished the HEMI except for adding the fan and headers. I got the body in primer! To be continued....

Mr. Moparman Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 There will be an update after I get back from taking my exam at school.
Casey Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Sure, This is the pitfall of "opening" a trunk on a model-- there's a lot of detail which needs to be added to make it worthwhile, and most of it involves scratch building. I'm assuming you will eventually display the car with the trunk open, in which case the underside of the trunk lid and trunk hinges will be highly visible. You may want to add the trunk lid's underside framing/bracing, and look to the reference pics you have to make a realistic trunk hinges. It's not easy to do by any means, but would add immensely to the realism you're trying to achieve. The trunk may does look nice and will add a some "believability" when it's all finished, and IIRC, the Charger kit includes the package shelf bracing, which comes in handy on a build with an opened trunk.
Mr. Moparman Posted December 17, 2011 Author Posted December 17, 2011 Casey, I know. I am just going to leave it as is for this model, being how this is my first time doing this. No update today though altough, I did get my interior paint yesterday.
Mr. Moparman Posted December 18, 2011 Author Posted December 18, 2011 My MCG P/E set came along with seat belts, BMF, and some other goodies. I haven't wasted time to put those P/E parts to use. I assembled the fan and fininshed the HEMI. I finished and detailed the dash. You can't see it but There is keys in the ignition. The seats have been painted, seatbelts added, and installed. A close up of the belts. The final trunk layout. Stay tuned for next post...
Mr. Moparman Posted December 18, 2011 Author Posted December 18, 2011 The rear valance has been detailed with key fob and R/T Emblem, both from MCG P/E set. I added a jack label to the trunk lid, like the real car. To simulate underhood insulation, I used black flocking. Enjoy!
