qmhd Posted December 15, 2011 Author Posted December 15, 2011 the transverse rear spring and 4 link aren't compatible. moving the radius rods to parallel the frame rails if you're going to keep the rear spring would be okay; but 4 links have to be parallel to each other or nearly so, and use coil springs more often than not. usually, the builder of a car would usually (not always, for sure) have the same type of suspension at each end of the car; hairpin rods up front and spread radius in back; or corvair up front, 4 link in back, later on in the '60's, and when Mustang II stuff came along it was popular to do parallel leaf springs out back and MII up front. of course, every builder had their own preferences. ferinstance: any time your car has radius rods from the front axle back to the trans x-member, it should have them from the rear axle also. there are steering dynamics at work in that arrangement that can't be dismissed. split the front bones, you must split the rear. Thanks for your kind remarks Now understand my mistakes and 'll correct them. I'll work with another axle (the red one misses details) My "selfish" desire is absolutely to preserve working with the transversal rear spring (I love so much the look) If you don't mind, I'll prepare a new mockup and If you've got time, it would be kind if you coud have a look at it
62rebel Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 if you can get access to one, LeRoi "Tex" Smith has an excellent book on '50's era hot rods; i can't recall how many clear chassis shots there were, but lots of good reference for builders in scale and 1:1. if you're not a member of HAMB, i recommend joining there to get to some really good "like it really was" information... beware the langauge and temperament, however. i'm happy to be of any help whatsoever! BTW... i built one '29 A with a strip styrene chassis and little idea of what the heck i was doing..... in my '30's. had a spare body i wanted to use up....
qmhd Posted December 18, 2011 Author Posted December 18, 2011 (edited) Hi guys, I could'nt find much time to work on the Deuce during this week, but here nevertheless small a update As said previously I wanted to keep the transverse rear spring so I prepared a new mockup based on the kind comments from "62rebel" I hope that this new configuration will seem more realistic like this (note that I've replace the FORD 40 Pickup axle by another one coming from a Chevy) I also added a small support for the batery - that gives a little more details and I like that Edited December 18, 2011 by qmhd
qmhd Posted December 22, 2011 Author Posted December 22, 2011 Very small update here Most of the work done was on the frame and rails (filling gaps, sanding) I removed the chrome of the ibeam (later I'll spray it with Alclad) and drilled small holes - they were alrdeay marked on the plastic so why hesitate? I also created small shock mounts that's it for today.
deathskull59 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 cool chop top im thinking of doing a 32 ford 5 window. exstened cab p/u truck with that body and a chop top.

Dominik Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 This topchop looks real! Perfect done Denis! I will follow your steps - looks to get a coool rod.
qmhd Posted December 26, 2011 Author Posted December 26, 2011 small update after a nice Xmass (hope it was nice for you too) I've chosen a pearl blue for the Deuce. After 3 shots I think it's not too light and deep enough to highlight the curves of the body. It will be sanded before clearcoat My will was to create a nice contrast with the blue by using a light grey I will use it outside on the firewall and the rims and inside for the dashboard I finally reworked on the tunel and than created the back of the cockpit where I placed the tank which I recycled from the 40 pickup. I had to relocate the battery but it was not a big problem hope you like the way it goes until now
carchub Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 This is awesome! I just got the revell model yesterday and was thinking of chopping as well. Thing is, I've never chopped anything, that's why I found your thread =D Can I ask you for some tips? I did not realize that there would be more than just cutting the posts D: Anything helps, and nice work on your model!
Gluhead Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) Nice lookin' hot rod. If you haven't been there yet, I'd like to recommend a visit (uh, it'll likely become several thousand visits, actually) to the H.A.M.B. http://www.jalopyjou...forum/ Search "Bass Coupe" for a quick start. He tends to include a lot of detail in his builds, and great pics. Outstanding reference material for the type of build you've sunk your teeth into here. Edited January 2, 2012 by Gluhead

mopar68 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Great build mate, this is looking killer Wheels with white walls were ordered a long time ago from www.thepartsbox.com (by the way, is this website still running?) Michele is having some minor health issues ATM, so the webshop is closed until further notice. Rumour has it they are moving to a bigger space, so as soon as they're done unpacking (and Michele's feeling better), the webshop will reopen with lots of cool new stuff.

qmhd Posted January 8, 2012 Author Posted January 8, 2012 Small saturday evening update here. Things are going on, but very slowly, sorry I'm nearly done with the front axle. I've worked on the details and hope everything is ok The biggest part of my recent work was done on the small block. I did some wiring here and it was not the easiest part Here again I hope I haven't done too much mistakes. by the way, I have a small question: I wanted to work with a small oil filter (see last picture) located on the firewall but is it correct with the kind of engine I chose? And if corect, where do I need to connect it on the engine?
qmhd Posted January 9, 2012 Author Posted January 9, 2012 let's go for my Monday evening update (yes, here in Belgium it's 9.5 PM) front axle is glued in place all the rest is just a mockup (not glued yet) to see ho the body fits on the frame I need to finish the rear axle and connect the exhaust system (not dry yet) any comments are welcome
qmhd Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 the end is not so far I still need to correct the chrome part of the windshield and finetune the connection of the exhaust system This will be done for the next update
