Eric C Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Here's one I finished up several weeks ago. Brabham BT50 built out of the box. Slight weathering on the tires and exhaust. Painted with Tamiya paints and also used the Tamiya kit decals. It still needs a little wash in the radiators but by the time I got to that point I was ready to be done with it. The biggest issue with the kit is the decals are not great and the upper portion of the body doesn't fit well to the chassis. Thanks for looking...
curt raitz Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Excellent job on one of Tamiya's tougher 1/20th F1 kits as you've noticed, the upper body does not fit well I 've got one 80% complete, I have to repaint...decals "went south" when I clearcoated didn't wait long enough and got a little to heavy with the clearcoat luckily there are aftermarket decals available Great to see F1 models on the forum, thanx for sharing
Peter Lombardo Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 (edited) Great to see F1's on this forum..man can not live by customs and rat's only........I also did that car a few years ago and agree with Curt about it being difficult, especially the decals and top body fit. It was amazing, that little 4 banger BMW put out in excess of 1,000 HP in qualifying set up. You sure did a great job, very clean and tidy build. Edited January 2, 2012 by Peter Lombardo
Gluhead Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Love the sleek and simple look to this generation of F1. Some of them come off as bland but certainly not this one! Great job.
3men2s Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) great job, I have this kit in my closet for the last 10 years, glad to see it built nicelly. Nelson Piquet drove the bt 46 during the last Brazilian GRAND PRIX as a tribute to the car and driver, check it out if you have not seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6suNNhMebE&feature=related Edited January 3, 2012 by 3men2s
scalenut Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I built this model many years ago , it's a great kit. I put many weeks into it and just when I was almost finished putting decals on , I went to adjust my cheap swingarm lamp , the metal shade fell off and smashed the model... I was upset to say the least and swept it into the garbage can. I vowed to build it again one day If I can find one at a fair price great job !
