Rob McKee Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I have that Chevy Van and trailer kit and have been looking to build it. Geez, maybe I should reconsider and wait this out. Maybe I could retire a little earlier. lol
martinfan5 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) Dave- thats the seller I was talking about Or here is one http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMT-ERTL-JOHNNY-LIGHTING-1969-FIREBIRD-1-25-SCALE-1-64-DIECAST-ALSO-BOX-/270883313238?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f11e75656 Edited January 3, 2012 by martinfan5
Fabrux Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 I realize the nature of the game when it comes to buing kits off of eBay. This was intended as more of apoint-and-laugh kind of thread...
ChrisPflug Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 original auction didn't seem too extreme - I think many weren't sure what was being laughed at.......
Dirkpitt289 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 My favorite bit of Ebay crazy is a seller that goes by the ID of pj-toys......he had a gluebomb Manx up there a while back that he relisted a few times, and his listings were anywhere between $70 and $100. He no longer accepts questions(at least from me). Here's one of his spendy model parts listings: http://www.ebay.com/...=item3a6de9b329 This guys prices are outta control.
Dirkpitt289 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I love that Javelin. I saved it so I can try and find it another time.
Sixx Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 It's the same old story: an item is "worth" whatever a buyer is willing to pay for it. For real. the starting price was what, 16 bucks. It's from all of the bidders that it went up!
donkeypuncher76 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 thats nothin man, i was just goofin shoppin for 1/8 scales, theres a ferrai up to 750.00 lol, rare is rare but dude.

He has an Ice Patrol kit listed...US$114.99!
B-onefan Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Just got to watch and wait. The other day I picked up, 2-Mack Cruiseliners, a GMC General, and a Chevy Bison for around $100.00, total. All unbuilt and complete. If you don't like the prices, go to Walmart and pick up the kits you want.

sjordan2 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I'm convinced that some sellers work with friends of theirs to jack up the bids.
MrObsessive Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 (edited) I've learned over the years that eBay is a lot like catchin' the bus.........you miss the first one, and another one will be by shortly. In any event----------"Patience is a virtue". Edited January 3, 2012 by MrObsessive
MrObsessive Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I'm convinced that some sellers work with friends of theirs to jack up the bids. I believe that to be the case, and I can recall a few auctions where that very thing has happened. Admitted after the fact though.
Harry P. Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I'm convinced that some sellers work with friends of theirs to jack up the bids. No doubt that goes on. The whole trick with ebay is not to get carried away and wind up paying way more than you thought you would. Like Bill says, patience. If the kit you really want is already bid up higher than you're willing to go, you can be sure the same kit will be up for sale again... and again...
ChrisPflug Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I have a feeling the Javelin will re-appear not long after this auction ends Of course if I was the person with the "Buy it Now" listing for the same item I could see using a bogus or "extra" account to run a different auction into the hundreds of dollars and get free advertising all over the web...... Being a bit sarcastic myself- think the intent of the Wal Mart comment might not have been meant to be taken literally
Dr. Cranky Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I agree with Bill, if I don't see (or lose one) something I like, I wait around. Besides, I am not a collector, I am a builder and as such I have plenty of WIPs on the bench.
B-onefan Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Walmart doesn't sell kits. That's my point!!! If you want something, then you either do without or pay the price. I don't like it either, but I have learned to be patiance. I live to build, so I could care less about collectability.
Dirkpitt289 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 What some people seem to forget, me included is that if you look around a bit you will find that same kit elsewhere on the web for less or the same price (usually better shipping costs) from a dealer. I like to use evilBay as a catalog of whats available.
donkeypuncher76 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I had to check out the pj-toys ad, oh boy! someone, somewhere needs to tell him we use dollars, not yen in the U.S.A. wow. 125 yen no problem. lol
The Creative Explorer Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 I think that PJ-guy has sniffed too much glue! haha. What bothers me most, is that local trades now comparing prices with e-Bay. Like on craigslist, "on e-Bay they are priced at 99,99, therefore I can ask that too". Which really shifts the market into a crooked sight. It even goes overseas, our local craigslist (marktplaats) prices are based on eBay listings, they take a quick look at the buy-it-now prices of eBay and think they can ask the same prices in Euro's.! They are just nuts! Like Bill said; Patience is a virtue and trust me, it works everytime.
scalenut Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 bid what your willing to pay (taking shipping into consideration). not a penny more. It's that simple.
Draggon Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 All these ebay rants, sheesh. I like ebay no matter what. I live in a very modern and progressive city with no LHS. All the garage sales/flea markets/rummage stores have little but used baby clothes, broken electronics, worn out books, and ###### furniture. I get stuff on ebay I cant get anywhere else, I just need to pay attention. I recently got a Revell Roadster Speed Equipment parts pack for a buck 99. Thats $1.99. Ive seen them for upwards of $70. It has the largest exposure and the most traffic of anything on the Net. The prices people ask for their products or items is something I don't give a second thought to. EBay works fine for me. Junkman Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 In what way would Ebay be crazy, if someone pays 700 Dollars for a plastic model kit? Furthermore, as much as I advocate that everybody should do whatever he pleases, if someone I know would do such a thing, I'd suggest to him to get examined by a psychiatrist. That's the least thing I can do for a friend.
