Dr. Cranky Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 If that still doesn't work, go to YOUTUBE and search for "Minatur Wunderland***official video 2012*** That will get you there.
Rob McKee Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 What an amazing work of art. I would love to go and see that in person.
Haubenschild Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 That is model heaven , also gotta love the german accent in the background
Dr. Cranky Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 Glad you got to see it, Liam. I'd like to know the background of how it got started, who put up all of those millions to get it done and maintained. The country? The city? Tax payer money? I wonder.
Joe Handley Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Glad you got to see it, Liam. I'd like to know the background of how it got started, who put up all of those millions to get it done and maintained. The country? The city? Tax payer money? I wonder. The way I understand it, the guys who own it are night club owners and/or promoters and model rail roading was a shared hobby of theirs. I guess they starting building this for fun and thought it might make a good side business too, so they opened it to the public.
Chief Joseph Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 It's hard to come up with adjectives to describe this. Impressive, entertaining, complex, disturbing... take your pick. All of it is a work of engineering art and it's a testament to German craftsmanship. Thanks for posting this, Doc!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 Thanks for the information, Joe. Yes, in order to do this kind of layout you need deep pockets or a way to recover your expenses . . . those airplanes taking off and the boats moving across water are unBELIEVABLE.!
58 Impala Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I saw this Video last week, that layout is absolutely amazing. But I'm not surprised, I spent 2 tours in Germany while in the AF. The Germans never do anything half way, they take pride in things they build.
bajaboy5b Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I've known about this for years, nice to know nothing has changed its just gotten better! Wonder how hard it is to keep the dust off it.
imatt88 Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 WOW, is that amazing! Leave it to the Germans to come up with something like that The airplanes taking off and landing was so cool.... Gerry Anderson would be proud! Cheers, Ian
Tony T Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 There is a website that has tons of info, background and video. It is all in HO scale. They modify existing kits or scratchbuild. There is a working airport that they have fun with from time to time (Christmas time Santa and the reindeer land and take-off) with a crash crew that can be 'dispatched' to the 'crash'. The computer work is as amazing as the modelling. The little vignets and details are truly astonishing. Here's the link to the website.
Modelmartin Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 One question. Can I get a job there? I will learn German if I have to.
The Creative Explorer Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 it's a 3 hour drive, maybe i need to go there this or next year. I've heard of it before, but never had the drive to go, but it does seem nice, especially all the little details.
sweeper Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Wow that is amazing! How many people does it take to make it work>
Dr. Cranky Posted January 14, 2012 Author Posted January 14, 2012 It says over 200 people are in charge of the operations and maintenance.
A.R.C. Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 Not one Smurf in site.....I`m very dissapointed.
