Put your wife and a few kits into the trunk of your car for a few hours. Now open up the trunk and tell me which ones you would enjoy spending the next few hours with!

Yeah, I stole it!

My wife is very supportive of my hobbies, though it hasn't always been that way. I think she finally realized that working at my hobbies keeps me available when I'm needed for something.

She was a modeler before we had kids, so she still shows an interest in what I do, gives constructive criticism, and is happy for me if I win any awards. On the flip side, I make sure to be very supportive of her current interests in writing and art.

I don't need to hide my purchases from my wife, but that's because I always make sure my purchases won't cause problems with our finances.

A friend of mine who owns a hobby shop just bought a model collection in an estate sale. The guy who passed away had collected more than 4000 models of every type you can think of. On top of that he had detail sets for aircraft, tanks, and cars in the 100s.

Made me wonder if his wife knew he had all of this stashed away in a rather large attick.

There sure are some great kits in this collection but I feel sorry for the guy as I am going through it helping my friend inventory everything.

What she don't know, won't hurt her. My wife shows no interest in my hobby & I'm grateful for the alone time I do get. I don't hide anything from her, I just don't discuss much of it with her. We have some shared interests: cooking, our kids, football (I know, right!). modeling just isn't one of them, & we can both handle that!

If I had to hide anything from my wife, she wouldn't be my wife.

Amen to that!

It didn't hurt that when I met my wife I had a car on the cover of a model magazine (not this one). She took a copy of it back home that month for Christmas to show her family "what I did".

She is very supportive of my participation in the hobby, both the work and the pleasure sides.

Fortunately my wife totally supports my modeling hobby, and usually whatever other interests I might indulge in (legal interests of course). She is usually one of my best critics when I'm either working on a model or have just finished one. She critiques the colors, the neatness, etc., and I value her opinion "most of the time".

I had a friend years ago (he passed away about 10 years ago from cancer) who would have to wait until his wife went to sleep to sneak down to his basement to work on his models at midnight. His wife thought it was ridiculous for a grown man to be playing with little toy cars...!!!!!! When he passed, all the guys in the LIARS Club (in NY) went to the funeral en masse, wearing the Club colors... His wife was blown away at all the people who showed up at the funeral home...

The current wife discovered my hobby early on in our courtship. She told her sisters, and later told me, that, "she'd rather have me sitting at the breakfast bar building a model, than sitting in a bar hitting on one."

Ya gotta luv the gal.

And a very nice gal too,

Do I hide, not really, but it helps that I am home when the kits arrive, so I can get them put away  , she knows what I am spending the money on anyways.

I had an ex girlfriend that could spot a new kit right off out of the thousands I already have!!!!! I could put it right in the middle of a big shelf full of models and she would notice it!

Hey man my wife to be supports me 100% as well and is even starting to build some models with me man which is so cool. She doesnt have a problem with me getting kits but would just wish I would build more then I buy man lol. The other thing is we are getting married in 3 months and all our spare money is suppose to be going towards our wedding :) my first wife hated my hobby and the amount of money I spent on it I guess thats why she is no longer around man lol

I'm glad to see most of you guy have understanding partners thats a huge bonus .My old lady also enjoys the fact I'm around the home building models and relaxing insted of being a workoholic 90% of time. But the only grief I get is when I bring a big box of models home from my hobby shop and someone says I'm building up the profits and lossing money. I always say its fun and bite my tongue too.

I was just sharing some of the responses here with my wife. She's an avid supporter of my vice,...er, hobby. Anyhow, her response was great, "I'd rather you were doing that than doing someone else." Man, I love that woman!!!!

I don't hide stuff, but I don't show it off either. She knows I have a very addictive personality, and model are a very small part of it. Doesn't hurt that there isn't a lhs in my area to buy out anyway. When we go out of town, she pretty much expects to stop at the hobby lobby or hobby town.

As far as everyone getting away with more because they made a cover or two....support should come from succes as well as just a good try. That's all I can promise, and expect nothing more.

I never hide anything from my wife ,one day i'm gona fall of the perch and she's gona have a HUGE collection of model cars and trucks . Here in australia there are a couple of buzzards that will hear of my passing and come around and offer her bugger all for the collection , so this way she knows what there worth so NOONE is gona rip her off , she will need the money when i go .

Also , i knew of a guy who had a HUGE model train collection and his family just thought it was childish and did not know the money value of his collection , when he died they ordered a dimpster -------------------------------------------- IT ALL WENT TO THE DUMP , at least about $60.000 dollars worth . Dont cheat your wifes from knowing how much it's all worth because they will need the money when you go .
